another day born in darkness
a body, naked, hunkered down,
simmering and shivering:
heat of frustration
chill of exhaustion
so, deeper i burrow
into words, into thoughts,
away from light
until
by chance
i turn my head
and see the sun:
a blaze of pinks and reds
and blues
above the clouds
cool of morning
warmth of day
fire enough to burn and burn
and burn away
whoever i was yesterday
