so often do they sit
together at table
they have assigned themselves seats
one is "his" the other "hers"
almost every day they sit
together, no matter how
life draws them on, pulls them apart
so devout are they in their habit
for them it is simply of a piece
with the vows they took at altar
how nice, you think, how cute
their wedding vows so fresh to mind
their charming if naive ideals
how many months married are they?
but oh, the naivete is yours--
these two have sat at table
together nearly fifty years
