Dalia Marcela Rojas Castro (Ph.D.) Research Engineer in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Computer Science Department L3i Laboratory University of La Rochelle

Hello and welcome to my webpage! I am a research engineer at the L3I laboratory of the University of La Rochelle where I defended my doctoral thesis.

My main research interest concerns the field of social cognitive robotics for human-robot interaction and collaboration and all related topics it encompasses. This includes the development of a robotic system capable of performing cognitive tasks alike those performed by humans such as knowledge acquisition, information processing, active perception and learning, intention recognition, theory of mind etc. In effect, the best model one can think of is that of humans, as they have shown extreme capabilities to handle unforeseen changes by reacting accordingly, to learn by example and from experience, to adapt easily to any given situation and to interact in a comprehensive way with other humans.

My dissertation work, whose roots are based on biological behaviour, has essentially focused on endowing a robot the capacity of understanding its surroundings in order to navigate autonomously while adapting itself to unforeseen situations. Hence, during my Ph.D. I conceived and developed a neurobehavioral control architecture applied to autonomous visual-based robot navigation. This was implemented in the Nao humanoid robot.
