Geographic Dispersal

Digital files are particularly vulnerable to physical damage. Storing copies in geographically dispersed locations allows the video library to survive in the event of flood or fire, and isolates data from computer viruses.

Geographic dispersal can be simply storing M-discs and external storage hardware in two locations (one in the home, one in the office) and using a cloud service or vendor.

Professional audiovisual archives rely on the "lots of copies keeps stuff safe" plan, and a LOCKSS plan is especially important for personally managed data.
