Camera Preset

Metadata management begins with the camera. Most cameras automatically embed technical information, like the time and date, format, exposure and GPS location at the time of creation into the digital file.

There are also custom settings that can be programmed in the setup or properties menu of the camera. Capturing the basic metadata at the time of creation provides consistent application to all the footage shot on the project and saves time in post production. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to capture:

  • The project title.

  • Copyrights.

  • Creator.

  • Subject: events, people or places in the footage.

Check the manufacturer's instructions for details about embedding metadata in specific cameras. Remember to check the metadata presets before each new project and/or day of shooting.
