Audio

Audio is one of the few digital formats that is supported by an international digital cinema standard, established by the Digital Cinema Initiative in 2008. Distribution to a digital cinema requires that the master distribution package (audio, video and metadata together) use the uncompressed audio Broadcast Wave format (.wav), which must contain:

  • Metadata of the first audio data sample.

  • A continuous frame count relative to image.

  • The sample rate for distribution in digital cinemas.

If distribution will be to other venues and .wav is not an option, select lossless, and open-source formats.
