He appeared in Kancheepuram in the Tamil month of Aaippasi under the star Tiruvonam in a temple. Within the temple, the image of Poigai enshrined in recumbent posture with eyes closed in deep meditation. He was regarded as incarnation of Panchajanyam because he sped like an arrow against the heart of atheists.
