The government is building a dam in Bastrop, TX. Our class was allowed to model the DAM after some building plans and overlooks if we chose, and I took the challenge up. The only criteria that we had was that the model has to look like the dam that was being built. Some of the difficulties I had when I was building the dam was attempting to make the road and the rails to the dam. The problem arose when I tried to put the road on the curved surface. After some research I learned that it is possible to use the Emboss tool on shapes, which made the road and rail much easier to create.Another problem I had was trying to navigate through the browser. I solved this by naming each of my features to make it easier to navigate and see how each feature was created.
I learned how to create a real world building during during project. I learned how to scale a real world plan to a model to make it an accurate model. I was able to explore some modeling and drawing tools in depth, like the aforementioned emboss tool. I learned more about the fillet, mirror, and extrusion tool. I really enjoyed making the part and knowing I was making a model of something that is going to be built. I also enjoyed trying to decider the plans and drawings that I had to base the model on, however challenging it was.
