Our Prevention and Pre-Planning Division oversees our training program. We are very fortunate to have a training building and training grounds in our district for our firefighters to use to enhance their skills. Our training facility features a two store training building which simulates a typical two story residential home. The first floor and half of the second floor is set up to simulate a house with furniture, etc. The second half of the second floor features a maze and wall breach simulator. Firefighters can use the first and second floor, as well as the attic to practice firefighter survival skills, search techniques, conducting rescues, advancing hoselines, breaching walls, ventilating a structure, etc. The entire building can be filled with simulated smoke to decrease visibility and simulate fire conditions. In addition, firefighters have the ability to flow water within the building on the first floor. On the exterior of the building, our firefighters can train on apparatus placement, the use of ground ladders and aerial ladders, the use of master streams and much more.
Our training facility is strategically located in the Village of Deposit along the Oquaga Creek which allows our firefighters to use the village fire hydrant system or Oquaga Creek for conducting water supply and apparatus / portable pump training.
With help from a Broome County Grant in 2025, we were able to make several improvements to our main training building that were long overdue. We are now in the process of expanding the simulators available at the facility to help enhance the training opportunities that are available to our firefighters and E.M.S. providers.
