What is It?
Blackboard is an integrated suite of online tools for secured online course websites. Among the many capabilities, NC State faculty use it to:
Distribute digital versions of course content via content areas
Link to and embed web content
Publish recorded supplemental lecture material
Publish secured student grades to individual students in real time
Allow students to submit assignments electronically
Offer secure, automated, self grading quizzes and tests(formative or sumative)
Interact with the instructor and classmates via secured discussion boards
Collect on the fly anonymous class surveys
and more. Primarily, Blackboard is used to "enhance" regular face to face NC State courses, but it is also used as a platform for "Hybrid" (part online and part regular face to face meetings) courses and fully online courses.
What Access do We Have to it at NC State?
All NC State course sections offered each quarter have a Blackboard course site automatically created for it. These Blackboard course sites are not made automatically available to students, but rather each faculty member has to manually make each course site available to their students (PDF printer friendly instructions | Narrated video tutorial instructions - 2 minutes, 26 seconds) for that section each quarter.
