DL Courses Student Satisfaction Surveys Data

What Is This?

In order to promote monitor and promote continuous quality improvement in Distance courses at NC State, the DL Department performs a quarterly anonymous survey of DL Students.

How is this Data Used?

The DL Department disseminates this and other data points to the college community and stakeholders to inform understanding and discussion of Distance Learning at NC State. Additionally, the DL Department uses this data to inform and measure the impact of DL initiatives and services, as well as utilizes this data for training faculty who will be teaching DL courses.

Methodology in Collecting Data:

Each quarter, starting Winter 2010, at about the 9 week mark in the quarter, the DL Coordinator sends out an e-mail to all unique ncstudent addresses that are associated with students that have enrolled for at least one DL course in ANY format (Online, Hybrid or Video Conferencing). The e-mail tells students that if they completely complete the anonymous DL Satisfaction survey and enter their e-mail address, they will be entered in a drawing for a $30 gas card. The e-mail provides a link to an anonymous surveymonkey.com survey that then collects the data. After the deadline specified int he e-mail, the survey is closed. The DL Coordinator then uses a random number generator to randomly select the gas card winner. The gas card winner is then notified by e-mail and must come to campus, sign the release form and pick up their card. Beginning Summer 2010, a follow-up e-mail will be sent to all ncstudent e-mail accounts announcing the winner and thanking all who participated.
