This past February at Headache on the Hill I had the honor of meeting Becky Dwyer. Becky participates in Headache on the Hill in honor of her daughter Melissa M. Dwyer. As doctors had essentially given up on helping Melissa after experiencing an intractable migraine, committed suicide five years ago today. Becky and her family advocate for migraine awareness in order to prevent others from experiencing the pain Melissa did. Today is considered Remembrance Day, a day to honor those we've lost from migraine, and dedicated specifically to Melissa and her family. Migraines are often not consider a fatal disease, and although migraine may not directly cause fatality, its devastating implications are not to be considered lightly. If you, or someone you know, is ever in crisis, please call (800) 273-8255.
