Delmarva's Ground Restoration Policies

As of January 24, 2017, Delmarva has announced they have completed installing Natural Gas service in Deacons Walk. Final Restoration will take place in the Spring when temperatures are warm enough for replacing concrete and asphalt. Delmarva's full letter is available here.

At the September 12, 2016 Civic Association Meeting Delmarva provided an update on the current construction schedule.

• Supposed to start in June, started in August 8
• Complete Main Installation Nov 1
• Service Line Installation Oct through Dec
  • If you need gas this winter call Chris to get an October Service Line Installation
  • Or if your furnace becomes inoperable
  • If someone needs service for 2016-17 the Natural Gas Main installation order (from the pre-construction meeting) will go out the window and residents who need heating fuel will be the top priority
• Final Restoration - Spring 2017

To the residents of Deacons Walk,

Unfortunately, our gas main extension project will be delayed until early July while Delmarva Power’s contractor completes required re-certification safety training. Given the delay, Delmarva Power now estimates completing construction by late September, which would still provide enough time necessary to convert your furnace before this winter. Delmarva has informed the Civic Association that Deacons Walk has reached the required number of Natural Gas Applications and Deposits. As such the entirety of Deacons Walk will have Natural Gas mains installed during the Summer of 2016. A Pre-Construction Meeting, and Specific Construction dates have not been set yet.

Deacons Walk has been placed in Delmarva's "TurnKey" Program for installation of Natural Gas Lines. As a part of the TurnKey program Delmarva will take an active role in helping Deacons Walk collect the required number of Natural Gas signups for the entire neighborhood to receive Natural Gas. In addition an additional installation crew has been contracted so that the Natural Gas Mains can be installed before the 2016-17 heating season. These two resources provided by Delmarva make this Deacons Walk best chance yet to receive Natural Gas Mains. In addition if this attempt fails with extra resources from Delmarva it will become very unlikely that Deacons Walk will be a candidate for Natural Gas for the foreseeable future. If you have interest in Natural Gas NOW is the time to sign up! If you do not sign up you are indicating that you do not wish to be a Natural Gas customer now or in the future.

For Natural Gas to come to Deacons Walk Delmarva needs to receive commitments from at least 65 households to become Natural Gas customers within 5 years. For Delmarva to recognize a household as a potential customer the household must submit a Natural Gas Application and a $200 refundable deposit.

If you have already submitted your Natural Gas Application and refundable deposit, please consider talking to your neighbors about the benefits of signing up as well. The more advocates for Natural Gas there are in the neighborhood the more likely it is that Deacons Walk will receive Natural Gas.

There are no shortcuts in this process. For Deacons Walk to receive Natural Gas service we need to sign up the minimum number of households.
