Field Trip #1: Everglades Experience at Holiday Park
Explore Florida’s unique natural treasure as a Wildlife Biologist and discover the mysteries it has to offer. Florida’s Everglades is the only ecosystem of its kind on the planet! The survival of the Earth depends, in part, on the level of environmental awareness we develop in our children and maintain in ourselves. The potential for change is unlimited if we develop in our children an awareness and appreciation for our natural environment. Science Eye believes that this increased awareness in environmental perception and pleasure is most effective when discovered while actually in the ecosystem itself. Our Everglades Experience is a full day field experience which takes place in the Florida Everglades within Conservation Area 3A and 3B in Broward County’s Everglades Holiday Park. Participants who attend are involved in an in-depth investigation of a natural sawgrass prairie succession. Participants spend the day investigating the biodiversity of the Everglades, exploring the geology of the system, relating critters to the health of the ecosystem, analyzing water from various locations, and discover the impact of exotic flora and fauna. This expedition includes coach bus transportation, airboat ride, slogging, water quality lab and “critter” lab, lunch, and experienced instructor(s). The bus and an instructor picks participants up at the Miami Airport Convention Center (MACC) at 8am and returns to MACC at approximately 2:30/3pm. The instructor provides background information and instructions on the approximate 45 minute bus ride to Broward County’s premier wetlands site -Everglades Holiday Park. On the way back to MACC, participants share the day’s expedition, test what they learned and enjoy the camaraderie of their Everglades Experience! A checklist of what to bring/wear will be provided before the trip to those who sign up.

DUE TO EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK CLOSING FROM GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN THESE FOLLOWING TWO TRIPS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO THE EXCITING EVERGLADES EXPERIENCE AS SHOWN ABOVE WHICH IS IN THE EVERGLADES BUT ON COUNTY OWNED PROPERTY.
