Self-Evaluation-
I was intimidated by this assignment because of the term "unit". I recognized that units are composed of lessons that scaffold off of the last. Creating units allows the teacher to include varying levels of instruction that should incorporate an array of instruction. This will give a look into student's strengths and struggling areas. The varying components used throughout the unit instruction will allow for a variety of assessments to be implemented throughout the course of instruction. Looking ahead, I would put a greater emphasis on assessment. I will saturate the learning experience with informal and formal assessments to better serve my students. This will ensure success and create a positive learning experience.
Rationale-
The growing educator is always learning and looking for methods and concepts to vastly improve their instruction inside the classroom. An educator's philosophy highlights their values and ideals. Reflecting on one's philosophy will increase the understanding of the reading process and will involve constructing meaningful opportunities to better serve the students. Developing one's philosophy will model appropriate standard conventions that will scaffold with written and oral communications. Providing meaningful information will offer meaningful purpose for the given situation.
Standard Connection-
6B) understands that the reading process involves the construction of meaning through the interactions of the reader's background knowledge and experiences, the information in the text, and the purpose of the reading situation;
6E) knows and models standard conventions of written and oral communications;
Self-Evaluation-
My philosophy of education is my reason for being a teacher. I will provide a copy on my classroom website to give other's my perspective on why I became a teacher. I would plan to revisit this artifact in effort to increase my growth. Becoming a teacher will provide me with opportunities for increased growth which will expand my way of teaching. Revisiting my philosophy will allow me to watch my own growth. Just over the past years, I have revised my philosophy to correspond with my overall growth. Learning new models of standard conventions will benefit my future learners by challenging myself as I challenge them. Our greatest growth comes from overcoming challenges. This applies to every aspect of life. I will hold my students to these same standards in order to convey success in and out of the classroom.
