Standard 5- Instructional Delivery: The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student
Rationale-The Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 5’s ideal outcome is to evaluate and use appropriate digital tools to support instruction, learning, and assessment of all learners. Implemented in 2013, this standard is one that greatly covers the use of technology in the classroom.
The importance of this artifact is to help teachers better engage their classroom using an array of different teaching strategies. The use of the flip project allows students to engage with one another with a more hands on approach. By allowing the students to use smart technology they are now able to use more cognitive skills, creative thinking along with an increase in problem solving. Therefore, the use of this standard will allow students to move forward with their use of digital tools.
Standard Connection- Section 5I) uses multiple teaching strategies, including adjusted pacing and flexible grouping, to engage students in active learning opportunities that promote the development of critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and performance capabilities. (IPTS 5)
Self-Reflection- In my lesson I begin with the introduction of a Civil war unit. I open with a brief summary of what we have been learning about in the weeks prior. I allow my students to actively participate in a series of activities that lead into our lesson. This lesson is a brief intro into the war and covers early events of the war. The idea of allowing kids to learn via activities is a great method to have fun while learning. This style of learning is important to an educator because it goes against the traditional style of teaching. We acknowledge the fact that students may benefit more from an interactive style of teaching. This connects to the future of classrooms because we are seeing more ways for student participation with the increase of technology in the classroom.
