Tourism

Despite it being winter, there are several local attractions and activities available to conference attendees.

Beaverbrook Art Gallery

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery, located directly adjacent to the conference hotel, hosts a variety of new exhibits each month and maintains a permanent collection that is divided into four sub-collections: the British Collection, The Canadian Collection, the International Collection, and the New Brunswick Collection. The core of the British Collection is the original Beaverbrook collection with which the gallery opened, including the crown jewel of the collection, Salvador Dali's 13-foot tall Santiago El Grande. In the Canadian Collection, the gallery hosts an extensive collection of 19th- and 20th-century Canadian artists, including many works by Emily Carr, David Milne, and Jean-Paul Riopelle. Within the Canadian Collection there is an emphasis on work from the Atlantic region, and the Gallery has extensive holdings of work by Christopher Pratt, Bruno Bobak, and Jack Humphrey. The International Collection contains representative works from the 14th to the 20th centuries. The Hosmer Pillow Vaughan Collection of Fine and Decorative Arts forms part of the International Collection. Information on temporary exhibits that will be available during the DASP meeting can be found here. Unfortunately, the gallery is only open 9:00am-5:00pm, except 9:00am-9:00pm on Thursday, so this may have to be a lunch outing for attendees.

Fredericton Playhouse

The Fredericton Playhouse is the city's premier show venue, hosting comedy nights, acrobatic displays, concerts, and theatrical performances year-round. The Playhouse's February schedule can be found here.

Boyce Farmer's Market

The Boyce Farmer's market takes place every Saturday between 6:00am and 1:00pm and features indoor and outdoor venders of local produce, food, crafts, and handmade furniture. Pictures from the market and some of their weekly vendors can be found here

Fredericton Trail System

Fredericton also has one of the most extensive urban trail systems within Atlantic Canada, with almost 120 kilometers of multi-use trails. A guidebook of the Fredericton Trail system can be found here. Groomed cross-country ski trails are available at two of Fredericton's parks: Odell Park and Killarney Lake Park. A complete trail map can be found here.

New Brunswick Provincial Legislature

The New Brunswick Provincial Legislature is located within sight of the conference hotel.
