Solar dynamics are a significant driving force on the processes within Earth's magnetic field, plasmasphere, ionosphere, and atmosphere. The coupling and driving mechanisms of these processes connect each region and are important for understanding space weather. Many recent Canadian scientific initiatives, both ground-based and in situ, have been developed to study the coupling mechanisms that govern space weather processes.
As a member of the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP), the Division of Atmospheric and Space Physics (DASP) will be holding the first ever DASP Student Workshop (DASP-SW). This meeting will bring together students from across disciplines to deepen their understanding of solar-terrestrial coupling mechanisms from the ground up, with an emphasis on measurement and data analysis techniques. The workshop will take place in conjunction with the annual DASP Workshop and will include lectures from experts in the field with generous time allotted for Q&A. Students attending the workshop are encouraged to present at the DASP workshop, and funding will be available for accommodations during the workshop, as well as the DASP conference. So, bring your questions, and your answers if you have them, and join us for the first ever DASP student workshop at the University of New Brunswick on February 18, 2020.
As part of this year's Student Workshop, attendees should expect in depth lectures on coupling in the solar-terrestrial system and a thorough introduction to various solar-terrestrial monitoring datasets available to Canadian Students, how to use them, and where to find them.
As part of participating in the DASP Student Workshop, accepted participants will be provided the following:
- Fully sponsored accommodations for February 17th-22nd, e.g. for the entire DASP meeting (Note: accommodations arrangements will be made for you).
- Fully sponsored participation in the Student Workshop.
- A free buffet breakfast on Tuesday morning.
- A free buffet lunch Tuesday afternoon.
- Complimentary coffee breaks.
- Attendees are expected to participate in the main DASP Meeting in addition to the DASP Student Workshop, as such they should register for the main DASP Meeting using the appropriate registration form, prior to the Student Workshop application deadline. Note: Registration for the main DASP Meeting will be opened shortly after the DASP SW announcement.
Please send any questions about the DASP Student Workshop by email to dasp(dot)dpae(at)gmail(dot)com.
We ask the attendees to thank the sponsor of the Student Workshop, the Canadian High Arctic Ionospheric Network (CHAIN), which has graciously provided full funding for all Student Workshop attendees and paid for the necessary facilities, allowing us to provide this workshop to all participants for free this year.
