OSU pics page 1
All photographs on this page were taken in December, 1979.
Likely the most familiar landmark on the OSU campus, Ohio Stadium well before its latest renovation. When this photograph was taken the then temporary stands at the open end of the "horseshoe" had recently been removed for the season, allowing a nice view of the stadium's original U-shaped configuration.
The "new" University Hall, dedicated in 1976. This building houses classrooms and academic offices. It replaces the original University Hall, erected in 1873, that occupied the same site and was very similar in appearance.
Orton Hall. Opened in 1893 and named after Dr. Edward J. Orton, Sr. -- Professor of Geology and Ohio State's first president. The Department of Geology and Mineralogy is based here and it's one of the oldest and more famous buildings on the OSU campus. The exterior of the building is said to incorporate all known types of building rock native to the State of Ohio.
"The Oval" in the foreground with the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library in the background.
Lincoln Tower. When this photograph was taken the building was a combination of dorm rooms on the upper floors and administrative offices on the lower floors.
