Educational technology should be used as a tool to support learning. In using educational technology I have learned how to help struggling students with reading comprehension and fluency. Thanks to the educational technology and library credential program, I have learned new strategies to marry my literacy background with media.
Instructional planning must be based on student characteristics because every student's educational experience needs to be personalized in order for them to be successful. Resources are readily available to learn more about my students. Keeping good contact with the community (parents, faculty, etc.) helps to assure that I am meeting the needs of each student. I now have a better understanding of what I want to learn about my students, and how I want to learn about them. Students’ needs can differ by their health, culture, social ability, along with learning style. The proficient ELL student is going to learn differently from the early advanced ELL student. The student with the learning disability is going to learn differently from both ELL students. I know that a successful learning environment is going to address every student's need, whatever it may be. Just because a student is unable to partake in cultural celebrations or assignments, does not mean that student will be excluded. When I plan for student characteristics in my instructional planning, students will blossom from a healthy learning environment where they will grow. As a classroom teacher I will use these skills and available resources to help my students succeed.
