Volunteering

Volunteer Tutor Program (VTP) at Tri-C

Job Responsibilities:

The Community Volunteer Tutoring Program (VTP) provides community members the opportunity to work with Tri-C students during focused one-to-one or small group tutoring sessions. The VTP matches students who are looking for academic assistance with a volunteer tutor. Tutors act as a support to the students outside of the classroom to review and reinforce material presented in class. Volunteers can meet with students at our Metropolitan, Eastern, Western and Westshore campuses.

Required Qualifications:

Volunteer tutors can be students, non-degreed persons, or persons with a degree. Scheduled sessions are arranged through the campus Learning Center according to student and volunteer tutor subject matter and availability. Volunteer tutors will meet with the Learning Center Director on the campus of their choice to develop a set schedule. Volunteers should be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and be comfortable communicating with a diverse student population.

Work Schedule:

The time commitment to tutoring students is flexible to your schedule and the academic need at the location you choose to tutor. We ask the tutors commit to one two hour block of availability per week.

Benefits

As a volunteer, you will receive training regarding best practices for tutoring through the College’s Learning Center. This is a wonderful opportunity for networking with other tutors, as well as getting involved with the community at Tri-C. Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in continuing education seminars through the Learning Centers.
