November 2012: The Troop Committee discussed what qualifies as a “troop/patrol activity” and voted to adopt the definition below. This definition takes effect immediately, and it will be added to the troop handbook in the next revision:
“For purposes of fulfilling First and Second Class requirements, a “troop/patrol activity” is defined as:
A pre-scheduled troop/patrol outing that has been implemented in accordance with BSA requirements (e.g., two-deep leadership, Youth Protection trained adults, etc.) for which a permission form was completed, or
A troop, district, or council sponsored camping outing such as a Camporee, summer camp, or high adventure outing (Philmont, Sea Base, etc).
Activities that do not qualify as “troop/patrol activities” include merit badge meetings/workshops/colleges, service projects (e.g., Eagle projects), and/or ad hoc meetings or events with other troop members. If in question, the Scoutmaster makes the determination if an event qualifies as a troop/patrol activity”.
