HEALING

The words Heal and Whole have same origin. To be healed is to become whole, complete, and total and, experience well being at both the physical and mental levels.

Healing crisis

Healing crisis through physical chemicalization or disease causing toxin release is an unpleasant symptom. When this occurs, the healer will explain the process to the healee and, at the same time, increase treatment until the healing crisis passes through. In most cases liquid intake increase and body rest proves beneficial.

Acute disease

Acute disease is of a short duration. Acute cases usually involve an immediate healing crisis-usually around eighth or ninth day. Continue Reiki until symptoms disappear.

Chronic disease

Chronic diseases last longer. Healees suffering form chronic disorders either experience a healing crisis much later or not at all. Discontinue Reiki until symptom dissolves.

Reiki Therapist's Role

All humans have an inherent ability to heal themselves. When a particular body faculty is either continuously ignored or the body misused, disease or mental disorders occur. A Reiki therapist's role is only to act as a channel to assist energizing and reactivating healee's faculties. In other words, the true healer is healee himself.

Do not attach yourself to results. Patients take in as much energy as required and use as applicable to their needs.

Do not be a doctor. Ensure that you and your patients are under proper medical care.

Requirements for Reiki to work

The only requirement for Reiki to work is the healee's willingness to get well.

Heal those who want to be healed

Requesting Reiki is indicative of healee's willingness to be healed. No Reiki should be offered where healing is not wanted. Do not impose Reiki and do not cast pearls before swine [Jesus Christ]

Energy Exchange

There is an energy exchange for therapist's time. It is incorrect to keep a healee indebted for services rendered.

Flow of Reiki

The Universal Life Force Energy enters at the Crown, comes down through the Third Eye, Throat and the Heart Chakras and to its extensions, the hands. Reiki, therefore, becomes available by placing hands on various body parts.

Attunement

Attunement is a process of opening chakras to continuously receive cosmic energy flows. Once you are an established channel, you are open for the rest of your life. Once a Reiki channel always a Reiki channel.

Attitude of Gratitude

Once a channel is established, the only requirement for Reiki to start flowing is to be in a state of gratitude and receive Reiki all the time. To begin with, be grateful to yourself for having chosen to be a channel; to Reiki the medium; and to whoever or whatever that gives the opportunity to use Reiki.

The simplest way of expressing gratitude is to thank yourself for being here, thank Reiki for being here and thank [your / healee's name] for being here.

The more grateful you are to life, the richer your life is. If you are grateful to life's unpleasant things, still richer your life will become; and the more reasons, you have for being grateful for unpleasant things in life yet richer your life will become.

Full treatment

Reiki energies are made available by placing hands on your / healee's various body parts. A full treatment comprises covering at least twenty-four positions for up to three minutes per location.

Giver and Receiver benefit

When you heal yourself and others daily, your energy levels, and healing capacities continue to grow. As Reiki flows through you to the receiver, you also benefit. The more you heal the more energies you receive.

ANTI-CLOCKWISE ENERGY SPIRALS

During a healing session, while a few front positions are being covered, the healee will invariably enter a deep relaxed state. In order to continue with the session, certain position changes are necessary. Yet, waking the healee from deep slumber can be jolting and unnerving. It is suggested that anti-clockwise spirals be drawn using first finger tip to gently touch the skin from shoulder to toes and from shoulders to fingertips. In doing this, corresponding energy spirals are generated within the healee's body, who is gently alerted of a forthcoming position change. Thus avoids jolting. Important: Anti-clockwise spirals increase energy and clockwise spirals decrease energies.

- Move to next position: throat chakra and hara; balance

Reiki's Sacred and Secret Symbols and their Significance

The Three Keys to the Universe: The Symbols

As the Reiki Symbols are sacred and secret, it is in keeping with the Reiki tradition that they remain confidential. They are only revealed to those who have taken second level Reiki attunement for empowering them. However, their nature, purpose, and usage can be discussed without violating this trust.

Inasmuch as, the attunement process empowers the symbols to fulfill their intended purpose, without the attunement, the symbols do not seem to do much. This has been tested many times.

Students are given these symbols to memorize before the attunement process. Many students, being psychic begin to see and feel the Reiki energies instantly. However, all report similar effects. Before the attunement, the symbols, by themselves, do not seem to have an influence on the Reiki energies. After attunement, the effect is definitely there.

Reiki symbols are transcendental in nature. They affect, not only the subconscious mind, as most symbols do, but also connect directly to the God-consciousness. Whenever a Reiki symbol is used by second level Reiki, the God-consciousness, or Rei, responds by changing the way Reiki energy functions. A divine covenant or a sacred agreement between God and second level Reiki has created this process. A person does not have to be in an altered state of mind for the symbols to work as they work automatically every time they are used. The symbols are the keys that open doors to higher awareness levels.

In order to activate them, the symbols must be drawn and used correctly. Reiki symbols have their own consciousness and it is possible to meditate on them to receive guidance on their use directly from the symbols themselves. This often manifests in channels discovering new uses for them.

The user need not be in an altered consciousness state while using these symbols. All that needs to be done is to draw the symbol once [physically or mentally] and repeat [verbally and mentally] three times in a mantra like fashion. However, in case they are used in an altered state of consciousness, they go deeper for quicker healing.

Divine Cosmic Energy Uses through

A. The Power Symbol #1

The Power Symbol is used to increase Reiki power. It is also used to seal space around the healee to prevent healing energies leaking away.

This is often seen physically as it appears as a white light box. At other times, it appears as a golden light sphere surrounding the healee. It can be used anytime while giving a treatment but is especially effective if used at the beginning to increase the power and at the end to seal-in the healing energies. The power symbol can be used to clear a room of negative psychic energy and seal it in light, making it a sacred space. It can be used to protect yourself, your car, home, children, or anything valuable. Reiki works on all levels and includes protection from verbal and emotional confrontations and from psychic attack.

B. The Mental / Emotional Symbol #2

This symbol is used to perform emotional and mental healing. Its use balances the right and left sides of the brain, bringing harmony, and peace. It is especially useful for healing relationship problems. It can be used with any emotional / mental distress such as nervousness, fear, depression, anger, sadness, etc. Physically, this appears as energy sometimes in the form of a bubble emerging from the practitioner’s heart chakra for emotional healing; or out of the solar plexus chakra for mental healing. Sometimes these two energies work together and merge in practitioner’s front before surrounding and entering the client. This symbol can be used to heal addictions and weight loss and smoking problems. It can be used to improve memory and is especially useful when one forgets where one left the car keys or someone’s name. Further, it can also be used to enhance affirmations’ use permitting them to enter the subconscious mind.

The mental / emotional symbol is used to change or eliminate unwanted habits. Write your name on a piece of paper along with unwanted habit[s]. Draw the mental / emotional symbol. Hold paper between your hands and treat it with Reiki.

This sends Reiki to your mind and related emotional centers that control unwanted habit[s] and sets into motion their healing. If you feel compulsions coming up strongly during the day hold paper in your hands. The feeling will pass.

C. The Distance Healing Symbol #3

This symbol cuts through time and distance barriers and is, therefore, used to transmit Reiki over distance and time. In effect, you can transmit Reiki to be received by people across a room, town, or even in other cities or countries. You can transmit across the seven seas to anywhere on our planet earth. The distance-healing symbol is used to bridge time. It can be used to Reiki the future. For instance, if you are aware you will participate in an important future activity and know the date and time, it is possible to send advance Reiki to the event. It will be there to help you when the time comes.

When used this way, the Reiki energy stores up like a battery. When the time comes, its healing energy descends to surround and help you. People have used this technique to help themselves with job interviews, examinations, doctor’s trips, surgeries, et al. Similarly, this symbol is used to send Reiki to the past. If you wish to heal a traumatic past experience and are aware of approximate date, you can transmit Reiki using this symbol. It helps if you have your picture taken close to trauma occurrence time. If you are unaware of the date and do not have a picture, it will still work. Simply visualize the event and ask Reiki to return the cause and heal it. This technique is also used to heal problems stemming from past lives.

You do not have to be in any altered consciousness state when you are using these symbols. All you have to do is draw them once [physically or mentally] and repeat them [verbally or mentally] three times in a mantra like fashion. Nevertheless, in case these are used in an altered state of consciousness, they go deeper and accelerate the healing processes.

Power Symbol # 1 Cho Ku Rei**

Cho Ku Rei use accesses instant power and can be drawn on any body position during healing sessions. Those visualizing this symbol in their mind’s eye see it differently. Draw anti-clockwise and observe what happens.

It is used to: § Increase power Seal space around healee to prevent healing energies leaking away. Especially effective if used at treatment beginning and end as it increases power and seals energies. § Clears room’s negative psychic energies§ Seals positive energies in white light.§ Protects you and valuable things.

Ms. Hawaya Takata said, “I have the key to the Greatest Peace”

Invoking Sei Hei Ki unites divinity and humans. It is used for: § Emotional and mental healing § Balancing left [conscious] and right [subconscious] to bring peace/harmony § Improving memory § Enhancing affirmatives’ power § Heal unwanted habits, and § Improve relationships

As all problems result from physical and mental imbalances, diseases create their own mental/emotional problems. This symbol heals imbalances, purifies, and cleans negative energies and protects surroundings from negative emotional disease life flu, etc. It can be used to increase memory retention. Before starting on a book invoke symbols - #1#2#1 and say, “What I read is absorbed, retained and reproduced when required." [Very helpful for students]

When #2 symbol is drawn facing itself any affirmation placed in between will balance the right and the left brain side.

When the symbol is drawn upside down, it connects the left or right brain and when symbol #1 is placed between them, the connection is enhanced.

This symbol unlocks the unconscious, release blocks and works primarily on upper chakras.

Sei Hei Ki

Another interpretation of Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen § The God [Soul] in me greets the God [Soul] in you with view to heal and enlighten § Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen: § Hon: center, essence, origin or start, intrinsic, root of tree, book § Sha: shimmering, person [Hon sha = book person or librarian] § Ze: advancing, correct course, directional course § Sho: target, honest man/being, integrity, sage § Nen: stillness, thinking by keeping in the deep part of the mind

§ Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is the shimmering essence advancing towards a goal or consciousness perfection. Inasmuch as, the God within me recognizes the God within you; the Buddha in me reaches out to the Buddha in you - enlightenment and peace is promoted.

§ I bestow the truth of truths upon you; provide the tree of life and the link between two worlds: the heaven and the earth. The inner and outer consciousness conveys the transmitting essence of absent healing. This is nothing but the concept of nen.

Suggested Preliminary Room, Self & Healee Preparation

Healing Preparation

It is suggested that before performing healing protect yourself, prepare the room, and request Master’s assistance.

For this, § Call on the Masters for assistance. Say, “I call upon God/Goddesses and all there is; Dr. Usui, Dr. Hayashi and Ms. Takata, and all the Universal Masters responsible for our evolution & restoration, to come and assist me with this healing of [Healee’s name] and I thank the highest self of this person for allowing me to do this”. § Enclose a pyramid around the room where the people are gathered and draw, either mentally or physically, symbols #1#2#1 inside the pyramid § Draw a 3-dimensional triangle over yourself together with symbol #1 on heart, throat, brow, and crown chakras § Draw symbol #1 on each palm § During healing, draw 3-dimensional triangle over each hand. Three Symbols: Some Uses

Usage Symbol #1

§ From now on draw #1 on each palm, then draw #1 over self [self-healing] or over others [if you are treating others] before starting any healing work. Can be done mentally or physically § Cleanse room’s negative energies by drawing #1#2 on four walls, ceiling and floor of each room that you enter. If you have more time cleanse top ceiling corners and each item in the room as well, especially if it is the first cleanse. Then cleanse once a week or month depending on the traffic § This symbol can be used before any other symbol that you want to use for a particular use e.g. #1#2. It will increase #2’s effectiveness. If used as a sandwich #1#2#1 it empowers, and seals making #2 more effective and focused

Usage Symbol #2

For finding misplaced items

Draw #2 over head and affirm: “I give myself permission to find my car keys [or whatever you wish to locate] within next five minutes”. Chant thrice. Then release affirmation from your mind to do other things.

For memorizing

Hold book you want to memorize between your hands and draw #1#2#1 over book and yourself and say “I give myself permission to absorb, remember and memorize contents of this book [book’s title]. And I have total recall whenever necessary”. [Chant thrice and begin reading book]

For recalling

Draw #1#2#1 above head and say, “I give myself permission to recall contents of [book’s title] in the next two minutes. [Chant thrice]

For relationships

Draw #2 over both parties and affirm, “I give myself permission to accept and welcome this relationship’s result. I know it will be in my highest good." [Chant thrice]

The Reiki energy comes from a higher source. As it is not your energy, do not express any expectations, such as, how the result should be. Whatever the outcome, it will be for the highest good. Be flexible and open. Your healing will be more effective. You can expect to be healed but do not expect when or how. Reiki energy will work its own way

Giving a Complete Reiki Treatment

- Before healee’s arrival, clear room’s unwanted, negative energies

- Wash hands before and after treatment

- Spend a few minutes talking with the healee to gain rapport. Explain Reiki process, hand positions, and answer any question healee may ask

- Ensure healee and you are comfortable during treatment. An uncomfortable position slows the Reiki flow. A massage table with a chair and a pillow or cushion for resting arms during treatment is comfortable

- Before starting, ask healee to close eyes, relax, and take three deep breaths [do back counting to 32 down the spine]

- Reiki yourself for a few minutes [place your hands on your solar plexus]. Draw triangle on yourself, healee, and palms

- Draw #1 on your palms

- Draw #1 from your crown to your solar plexus for protection and empowering yourself

- Draw a big #1 in the room and fill it with golden light

- Draw #1 over the healee’s body and proceed with treatment starting with head

- Visualize drawing #1#2#3 on healee’s heart

- When doing head position use mental / emotional healing #2 to connect with healee’s higher self. To start, use right hand [left hand for left-handed] to draw #1#2#1 over healee’s head. Then mentally thrice say [healee’s name] higher self, please communicate with my higher self”. Wait a few moments and write down anything that comes to your mind or keep to yourself.

- a] Do healee’s feet before abdomen position or follow Reiki Level 1 hand position sequence

- b] Upon completing head, feet and abdomen positions seal healee’s energy field with #1 on solar plexus

- When healee turns on his stomach, draw #1 on back before proceeding with back positions

- End treatment by using #1 on healee’s lower back area and seal energy field by covering area with your hands briefly

- Hold healee’s ankles for a few minutes to ground energies. Cleanse aura from head to foot three times

- Give mother’s healing touch from hands to spine base. Follow with spine back to both feet

- Top hara is for peace and spine base for energy

- Offer healee energized water glass to wash toxins away

Empower Goals through Reiki Box

If your efforts to achieve a particular goal are blocked, it means something needs to heal before you can achieve it. In addition, the goal achievement becomes easier if all aspects are surrounded with love and harmony producing Reiki energy.

Write your name on a piece of paper. Name your goal and write it on paper by describing it. If dates are involved, write these too on paper. Draw #1#2#3 on paper. Store paper in a Reiki Box. Each day Reiki paper for twenty minutes or more. Continue active work to achieve stated goal. You will find everything working better. If goal is in harmony with higher good, you will achieve it.

Reiki, a powerful healing energy, has many possibilities for the innovative practitioner. It is exciting that something as valuable as Reiki is now widely acceptable.

- Bring hands together as though you are about to clap

- Mentally ask healee to put thoughts from between your hands

- Then say, “with God’s permission, let Reiki energy heal this person for h/er highest good

- Keeping left hand stationary, use right hand to draw #1#3#1 between hands remembering to say related mantras three times after drawing each symbol

- Mentally say, “I am placing you on my legs which will represent your body." [Right knee represents the head; right thigh represents the abdomen; left thigh represents the back; left knee represents specific problem areas].

- Begin treatment:

- a] Place both hands on right knee [represents eye position] and do symbols #1#2 over knee / thigh area

- b] Place both hand on each side of knee [represents side of head position] and draw #1#2#1 over knee area and connect with client’s higher self

- c] Place hands underneath knee [represents back of head]

- d] Place hands on thigh near knee area [represents throat area]. Position hands with both hands index and middle fingers touching each other at 45-degree angle pointing towards knee like an inverted “V."

- e] Move both hands down towards you one inch at a time, covering total four positions [representing front four positions] always maintain the inverted “V” hand position. And one more position to represent feet soles

- [One hand must always maintain contact with leg. Move one hand at a time]

- f] Move left hand to top left thigh, near knee area, followed by right hand to same area. Resume same inverted “V” hand position [representing start of back positions]. With right hand draw #1 over left thigh

- g] Move hands down towards you, one inch at a time, covering five positions [representing five back positions]

- h] Move both hands to cover left knee, if there is any specific problem area that cannot be covered above [mentally visualize the problem area]. Seal area with #1 before aura cleansing

- Slide both hands away from you and mentally say “Bless and Dismiss” three times. [Ten minutes should be sufficient to complete this process. However, if you wish, you can spend more time on each position]

Use a teddy bear to represent person. Use distant healing method #’s 1-5 and mentally declare teddy bear is healee’s body. Perform standard treatment starting with #1 over teddy bear’s followed by hand positions for various body parts. Before starting on the back, draw #1 down teddy bear’s back. Group Distance Healing

Spiral Method:

Reiki Level-II practitioners’ group can send distance healing with powerful results using a clockwise spiral method. Each person sits facing front person’s back, and beams Reiki with hands a few inches from or touching the front person’s back. The outer end person sends the group Reiki to person in need. To start with, everyone draws #1#3#1. Everyone chants thrice person’s name for receiving healing and beam Reiki.

Circle Method:

Imagine the person who is to receive distance healing is seated in the circle’s center. The person’s picture or name and address written on paper is placed in the circle center. Everyone face their palms towards circle center and draw #1#3#1 and chant person’s name aloud thrice. Time duration can be about 5-15 minutes.

Aura Loosening

Perform Aura Loosening when healee is in a state of depression. The process is similar to pulling blocks. Pluck aura like plucking feathers from root chakra to both feet and then from root over shoulders and up to 8" above head. Do this thrice. Draw #1#2#1 on all sides of client, floor and roof. Close at back heart chakra after balancing all chakras from third eye to root.

Healing Withholds

Lie down on your back. Place both hands on the navel and ask:

Beaming

It is possible to beam Reiki to healee from across the room by using #3. This dramatically increases Reiki flow through you to client. As you are completely outside healee’s aura, Reiki treats complete aura first before entering healee’s physical body where it is needed. Draw #1#3#1 and face your palms towards healee.

When beaming to healee, it is possible to direct Reiki to specific areas. Imagine your hands are like radar dishes focusing Reiki on areas to be healed. In addition, Reiki can be directed with your eyes by focusing your visual attention on area.

This process works better if you allow your consciousness to merge with the Reiki consciousness. Simply let your attention dwell on Reiki awareness as it flows through you. Focus your mind only on Reiki. Should other thoughts enter your mind, let them pass gently. Refocus your attention on Reiki. In doing this, you will enter an altered state allowing Reiki flow through energy pathways which open further. Beaming is done as standard treatment-end or done by itself.

HEALTH HISTORY AND REFERRALS

Reiki practitioners keep accurate client records, including profiles of the body-mind health history. They discuss any problem areas that may contraindicate use of Reiki, and refer clients to appropriate medical or psychological professionals when indicated.

PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE:

Reiki practitioners pay close attention to cleanliness and professional appearance of self and clothing, linens and equipment, and of the clinic environment in general. They endeavor to provide a relaxing atmosphere, giving attention to reasonable scheduling and clarity about fees.

OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS

Part One

Can Reiki be misused?

No! As Reiki is taken and not given, it is not a manipulative tool in therapist's hands. The therapist is a neutral aseptic channel. His thoughts, beliefs, emotions, prejudices, religion, etc. do not influence Reiki.

Reiki and specific diseases

Reiki is a holistic healing system. It does not deal either with body parts or symptoms but with disorders. The healee may not be aware of a disease or its location.

Reiki, being a therapy for the entire body, healing process covers all 26-body positions for ninety minutes.

Sometimes, it may not be possible to heal this long. For instance, a person is suffering from a head or a stomachache, or is injured in an accident. Make it available wherever required. Also, generate additional locations, such as, upper and lower thighs, knees, etc.

Be it therapy or localized treatment, it is suggested the therapist silently expresses gratitude like 'I am grateful to you that you.... met with an accident...felt free to come to me... which has given me an opportunity to make Reiki available to you'. Expressions of gratitude help the patient himself enter a state of gratitude thus leading to positive results and accelerated healings.

Sequence in healing

Maintaining a sequence during healing is not important. However, the therapist can develop a sequence just so no body location is ignored during healing. A basic rule to follow is that the next position is close to the earlier one. Should you miss a location during a session, take it up at the session end.

Why cupped hands?

By cupping hands during healing, the therapist creates a pyramid for enhanced energies. In addition, the cupped hand being light on the body is comfortable for the healee.

Moving between positions

While changing body positions, lift one hand first, place it at the next location, and follow with the other hand. Avoid dragging hands. This way energy flow is not disrupted; body contact is maintained and healee remains feeling reassured.

Maintaining equal healing time between positions

Keeping track of time by counting, or repeatedly referring a clock is not recommended. By this the therapist is with time and not with the healee. Playing bell music is soothing to healee.

It is not mandatory to move to the next position with the bell. Should it warrant, continue with extra time at the position you feel requires additional energies.

Over practice, the therapist develops an ability to determine by his hands whether adequate energies have flown to a particular position or not.

Can hand sensations be developed?

Yes, hand sensitivity can be developed by vigorously rubbing them against each other for a minute or two each time. Determine body distance needed for experiencing the pull or push feeling.

Is pressure necessary?

No. Therapists with heavy arms and bodies need additional care while placing hands on the healee.

Is book reading or tube watching permitted during self-healing?

No. The thumb rule is to remain in a gratitude state, with eyes closed and hands positioned on body. Healing quality will improve considerably.

Why close eyes?

Sight is a major energy-depleting channel. Like a continuous running tap, it does not permit your energy reservoir to fill. Similarly, unnecessary speaking drains out energy. To conserve energies, keep eyes closed and mouth shut.

How is absent healing performed?

Create an imaginary monitor in your mind comprising three elements - visualization; golden, white or green light; and gratitude.

Place within this blank monitor a person, event or happening, and imagine it healing. Do not force an issue. Image occurrences will not mean that they will happen. Let images evolve.

Do I need to concentrate?

Reiki healing does not require concentration. Concentration implies focusing an issue while excluding others. All agree that living by inclusion promotes growth while living by exclusion retards it. Remain aware to all universal occurrences.

What is regular Reiki use?

This is remaining in a 24-hour state of gratitude with a ninety-minute self-healing time each day of your life.

Is there a wrong way of taking Reiki?

No! The thumb rule is to remain grateful, be at ease, and do whatever comes up.

What about thoughts?

Let your thoughts free. Remain grateful to Reiki for the absolute freedom of thought.

You have no control over your thoughts, as it is an involuntary process. Thousands of thoughts pass through your mind each minute. The trick is not to let them stick. Let them pass.

To increase healing efficacy review past day's events for its contents: life's quality and difficulties encountered. The quality of life, being what it is, it is important to heal unpleasant negativity. Continued Reiki usage brings about positive life changes.< namespace="" prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xml="true">

Determine why you were unhappy during the past 24 hours. Place this negativity in a golden light flow and heal. Identify reasons to be grateful for, such as, persons, and events and acknowledge them.

Once you are able to do this on a continuous basis, start healing next twenty-four hours. Heal the past, the present, and the future - thereby learning the process of living moment after moment after moment in satisfaction and gratitude.

Any suggested healing postures

A comfortable position is essential. Determine these postures yourself during healing sessions.

While treating others, person lies on his back, preferably on a table's outer edge so that the healer does not stretch too much.

How do I know that Reiki is really flowing?

Await results - which need not be what you seek. Reiki brings results that you need and not what you want. Subtle and significant changes will occur as healing continues over a long period.

Feelings of relaxation, irritability, anger, frustration, sorrow, aloofness - any one or a combination of these feelings can be thrown up. The healing process is on.

Can death be healed?

Inasmuch as, the way you live is important, similarly the way you die is also important. Ideally, death should generate satisfaction for the dying and for those left behind.

Be with your monitor and visualize the dying. Include close relatives, friends, and yourself within the monitor. Cover the monitor with golden, white or green light and remain in a state of gratitude. Provide energy for as long as it may take.

In the process, it is possible that some dead persons will appear before you. They are seeking healing and support. Let them draw as much energy as they need.

Is there a good time for taking Reiki?

Any time is good time for taking Reiki

Should I sleep off during self-healing, do I restart?

No. Sleep is a deep relaxation state and a healing process part. Do not feel guilty for sleeping. Should you fall asleep during self-healing, start from where you left off. Sleep is not an interruption.

If sleep becomes a pattern, you can change position sequence. By doing this you reach the head position last and sleep off then.

While sleeping, remain in a state of gratitude by letting energies flow either to heart-solar plexus chakra or solar plexus-hara chakra combination. The energies will continue flowing during your sleep.

Should a healee sleep, let him alone as long he wishes to. Do not hasten the waking up process.

Define an interruption and a break

An interruption is attending a telephone call, or answering the door during healing. Dividing healing time into two or three parts is a break.

Any diet restrictions?

None. Energize whatever you eat or drink. It will become wholesome.

How long should I take Reiki?

Much depends on benefit levels you seek. Perhaps, for life.

How do I determine healing?

Maximizing satisfaction determines healing levels. Imagine you are working at the physical or an emotional level. Should you say `the best thing that has happened is that I am completely cured' or `the rough patch I was passing through has completely vanished from my life', then full healing has occurred. Any feeling levels below this are partial healings.

Does Reiki work on inanimate things?

It is possible. Inanimate objects, such as, dead telephones and batteries have come to life when energies were directed towards them.

Our life quality is such that seldom are we in harmony with objects surrounding us. To enhance well being and bring harmony into our lives, start directing energies to these objects.

Can I increase my gratitude levels?

Yes. Start with expressing and asserting gratitude. Instead of displaying anger, assert with `I am grateful to you for making me angry' or `I am grateful to you for having suffered my anger'.

Try wording your gratitude to concerned person, either privately or in public. Perhaps, you can even write out on paper and position it for display where all can read it. You can further enhance gratitude levels by healing unpleasant happenings in one's life.

Will Reiki relieve stress?

Yes. With complete body healing each day, you not only heal your past, but also your present and the future. You begin to live in the HERE and NOW and in contentment and abundance.

Is attunement mandatory for offering healing?

Strictly, Yes. Receiving attunements is an integral part of offering Reiki healing.

How do I generate ninety minutes for full body treatment?

Direct energies for half an hour each day to your watch. You will not only heal your relationships with time but by making a conscious choice and you will have generated time for yourself.

Part Two< namespace="" prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xml="true">

What training is available?

Contrary to Western teaching that makes Usui's system an oral tradition, the system was documented in some detail by Usui himself. Each student at the teacher level was required to copy notes made by his teacher. These were carefully checked for accuracy. Considerable teaching practice was enforced before a new teacher was allowed to operate on his own.

The teaching notes describe Usui's system as a blend of Taoist qigong, Japanese Tendai Buddhism, and Chinese medicine to create his system. There was no: trip to < namespace="" prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" xml="true">Chicago, India or Tibet; and no 'sutra' symbols appeared in colored bubbles.

Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM], based on three books: Su Wen, Ling Shu and Nan Ching written in China around 2600 BCE and attributed to the Yellow Emperor Huang Di, is practiced in a form using eight principles for disease assessment and treatment. An alternative assessment method uses Five Elements. Usui used this form.

The treatment sequence basis is energizing the Gall Bladder meridian, which runs from the outer canthus of the eye, over the head, zigzagging down the body sides to terminate at the nail of the fourth toe. Each seven hand positions progressively stimulate this downward energy flow in this meridian. Position #7 works on kidney-associated bladder meridian point - 'mother' of gall bladder meridians.

Usui studied Tendai Buddhism sect. This came from China where it is known as Tien Tai. There are a number of closely related sects such as the Shingon. Tendai makes use of vipassana style meditation as well as holding < namespace="" prefix="st2" ns="urn:schemas:contacts" xml="true">Amida Norai (Amitabha Tathagata) as its principal deity. Tendai Buddhism was practiced at the Kurama temple until 1949 when it was taken over as the headquarters of the Kokyo sect. Taoist qigong was developed in China thousands of years ago. One of its principles is that of wei-wu-wei literally 'do by not doing' but is beautifully described as acting in a manner that entails the least involvement and proceeds from the stillness of the heart. This principle is an important part of Usui's system.

Can I learn the Usui healing system from a book?

The system requires that a qualified instructor teach the system. Usui's system is not mindless placing of hands on the body; you are working on a feeling, living person and interacting with that person's energy system.

The connection to the system is through empowerment series. These are transformations and attunements. The connection is NOT an initiation as the empowerment given by a qualified instructor who understands what he is doing.

Is the Traditional Japanese Reiki system better than the Westernized version?

Western Reiki stems from Hawayo Takata teachings. She was a patient and student of Chujiro Hayashi. The system was heavily modified to suit American students and a fake history was developed, presumably to make it acceptable to the mainly Christian followers. The complex hand positions used in Hayashi's clinic were retained in Takata's system.

Over time, the teachings were distorted by an 'oral tradition' imposition. Many teachers added their own ideas and dropped parts not understand by them. Many additions stemmed from Indo-Tibetan systems. These changed systems are now passed on without students being aware they are not being taught the original system.

Western Reiki cannot be invalidated as "wrong" or "invalid" simply because of changes over time. Each student has a different need and is attracted to his or her teacher for a different reason. Lack of proper training and poor understanding of the system by many Western "Reiki Masters" has led to a distrust of the system, not only by the "established" medical professions but also by practitioners in other modalities.

Traditional Japanese Reiki is a close reconstruction of Usui's system. It is taken from notes copied by Tatsumi and Hayashi and created by Usui himself. These notes, copied in Shakyo tradition and marked with a seal (known as a hanko), are traced as belonging to Chujiro Hayashi. Additional information was obtained from Toshitaka Mochizuki (the author of "Hands of Healing") and Dr. Harumitsu Matsuoka in Japan.

Great care is taken in selecting and training teachers. Each is expected to teach the same material and provide the same handouts. These teachers can not create their own lineages unless they undergo a rigorous training program.

What is the connection between Reiki and Indo-Tibetan systems?

Reiki in the West developed during the start of the 'New Age'. Americans were taking an interest in eastern spiritual modalities and were travelling to India to stay in ashrams and temples. It is extremely unlikely that Usui-sensei actually visited India and Tibet. The temple libraries in Kyoto have copies of all the documents that Usui may have needed.

The Indo-Tibetan energy systems are based on chakras. Although there is a similarity with the Du-Ren channels of TCM and the chakras, these systems are not compatible with each other, as the base intent is different.

Several Reiki teachers have arbitrarily mixed chakras into the system, often solely on the incorrect assumption that Usui had brought Reiki back from Tibet.

None of the people involved in TJR, either directly or indirectly, opine that Usui incorporated Indo-Tibetan material into his system. The Center regrets its inability to enter discussions with anybody who wishes to argue the case to the contrary. Anyone wishing to learn with an open mind is either invited to attend CHSR workshops, or organize a group comprising at least 10 persons for our teacher to conduct a class for you.

What is the connection between Reiki and Kurama?

The Kurama temple was founded in 770, as the guardian of the northern quarter of the capital city (Heiankyo) is located halfway up the mountain. The original buildings, however, were repeatedly destroyed by fire. The Main Hall was last rebuilt in 1971. The temple formerly belonged to the Tendai sect of Buddhism, but since 1949, it has been included in the newly founded Kurama-Kokyo sect as its headquarters. More than six million years ago, Mao-son (the great king of the conquerors of evil and the spirit of the earth) descended upon Mt. Kurama from Venus, with the great mission of the salvation of humankind. Since then, Mao-son powerful spirit governing the development and the evolution not only of humankind but also of all living things on Earth has been emanating from Mt. Kurama, and a priest named Gantei received the spiritual transmission. In the first year of Hoki (AD 770), Gantei, who was the best pupil of High priest Ganjin, the founder of the Toshodaiji Temple in Nara, led by a white horse, climbed up to this holy place. His soul was enlightened with the realization of Bishamon-ten (the protector of the northern quarter of the Buddhist heaven and the spirit of the sun).

Following this, he founded the Buddhist temple on Mt Kurama. Later, in the 15th year of Enryaku (AD 796), the chief officer in charge of the construction of the Toji Temple, saw a vision of Senju-kannon (the thousand armed Kannon and the spirit of the moon) and built temples and pagodas on the mountain. Mao-son. Bishamon-ten, and Senju-kannon are the symbols of the universal soul, forming a Trinity known as Sonten or the Supreme Deity Sonten is the Living Soul the Supreme Soul of the universe; the Glorious Light, and the Activity of the Soul. These three are the symbols of power, light, and love.

One of the Buddhist deities worshipped at Kurama is known as Fudoo. This is one of the Five Great Vajra Kings, Acala. There is an annual fire festival each October at the temple that is dedicated to Fudoo.

The temple has a 'prayer' that is chanted at one of the shrines that calls upon these three deities to grant that peace may defeat discord, unselfishness may conquer greed, sincere words may overcome deceit and that respect may surmount insults. This reflects the true spirit of Usui's healing system and an important part of Traditional Japanese Reiki.

The same prayer calls upon the "Great Light" which has the same name as the fourth symbol of Reiki, that of empowerment. This prayer was in existence in Usui's day and may be the source of the "sutra" story that is part of the oral tradition of Western Reiki! However, the empowerment symbol does not originate from the prayer at all; Usui describes its source in the notes that were passed on to Hayashi and on to Tatsumi.

It is unlikely that Usui-sensei would have made use of the Kurama deities. The 'symbols' used in Reiki have roots in Chinese Taoism and map far better on to a group of three Buddhist deities known as the "Amida Sanzon"

It is far more likely that Usui made use of the Kurama temple because it was close to his home. The mountain has powerful 'energy hotspots' and is a good place in which to meditate. The story of Usui receiving the entire system in one go during such a meditation and 'seeing the symbols in bubbles of light' is unlikely. Usui already knew the symbols by that time and was actually meditating on an Amida mandala, which contains one of the symbols!

In Tatsumi's notes were detailed descriptions of the origins and use of all four symbols. There were several references to Taoist documents such as the Tao Tsang as well as mentioning the Amida Sanzon link. There is no mention of Kurama and its temples.

We consider that the Kurama temple plays no great part in the formation or development of Usui's healing system. Indeed, in many Reiki books, the mountain mentioned is Mount Koriyama - a volcanic mountain in a different part of Honshu island, which is visited by many 'Reiki Pilgrims' each year!

How do I determine which healer/Master is good for me?

As with any discipline, whether allopathic, homeopathic, or spiritual healing, the proof is in the results. The person seeking healing must ask God’s direction in selecting a healing team and discipline. Any negative results (as in condition worsening) are a sure indication that things are not working out.

Can a Master determine a person registering for advanced level attunement is initiated into the entry level?

A teacher taking on other teacher/discipline initiates must audit for entry course. This aligns and clears the different philosophy, method, etc.

Should there be a gap between entry, advanced and master healer and teacher Reiki levels.

A 21-day gap between entry and advanced level initiation is recommended. This is essential for emotional self-healing, and a 40 day self-healing gap before starting any initiations. The gaps permit time to deal with personal issues and clear communication with God, as some people are not destined to be healers.

Who is entitled to receive a Master attunement?

A teacher will not resonate well with all who approach him/her for training at any level. Therefore, the teacher must set teaching standards. Once this is done, the teacher will make entrance requirements for students.

An Illustration: Will a teacher accept an egoistic student who has contempt for all? Why not? Taking on all students can lead to a changing of focus away from God to a smaller god (money, numbers of students, etc.) resulting in a teacher losing his reputation and ability to attract quality students in the future.

Some Reiki groups profess the secrecy of the symbols, while others openly publish them in a book. Which is correct?

Both. Secrecy is necessary at the higher levels to protect unwary people from inadvertently misusing symbols or techniques as well as to prevent those with bad motives from using such things to their own ends. Since most of the symbols are published in books, secrecy may seem to be impossible. However, the USE of these symbols may remain secret for a teacher to pass on to his/her students.

There is a great variation in the charges for Reiki attunement, by different Masters. Can it not be standardized? Can there be a system wherein a Reiki Master must be registered to get a license to practice it?

Standardizing attempts are under way. In the US, the massage therapists are trying to take over Reiki training. This makes it necessary to get a LMT degree in order to practice Reiki. In addition, the traditional Reiki group headed by Takata’s granddaughter, Phyllis Furumoto, is trying to sift through the teachings to standardize and set levels of competency.

Fees is another sore point. Some charge as high as USD 40,000 for an attunement for levels that were never intended in the traditional Reiki practice, while others give mass attunements free. Individual healer / teacher must set fees in agreement with their contact with God. This makes setting a rate sheet impossible, were it not for the custom of taking an exchange.

A large number of Masters call themselves Grandmasters? Who is a grandmaster?

There was no provision for this title in the traditional Reiki training as taught by this teacher’s benefactors. Much controversy has surrounded Takata, who went and filed a paper with the clerk of court in Honolulu back in the 1950’s stating that she was a Reiki Grand Master. You can take this as a warning flag of a huge ego. The term Master is traditional and means a pre-pubescent boy in England, and it means someone with a one year advanced degree in the academic world.

Whether lineage of a person automatically makes him/her grandmaster?

Lineage is another sore point. How many people can actually trace themselves back to Usui? What is the benefit in doing so? Especially since Usui himself is rejected by blood relations in his homeland? Would you trust anyone who is a MD from an unaccredited medical school as opposed to someone who graduated with honors from Harvard Medical School? Common sense is a way to answer this question.

Can you explain what body reactions occur during an attunement?

This is difficult to determine. Best is to experience the reactions yourself. However, in Angelic Ray Key St. Michael provided listed explanation St. Michael concerning attunements:

- Level 1 brings three lower chakras up to vibrate in resonance with the heart chakra.

- Level 2 brings the three upper chakras down to vibrate in resonance with the heart chakra.

- Level 3 opens the healer/teacher to vibrate in resonance with the universe.

A newspaper advertisement claimed an initiate's condition had worsened after receiving Reiki attunements -and an attunement reversal was requested. Is it possible?

No! Once the Reiki attunements are done, they appear to be permanent.

This is a very important reason you should be selective in who is your student. Make sure they are ready on a spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical level before you accept them, even into the first level.

If they are carrying karma that must be released, it WILL. When they are not ready to release it, there can be disastrous consequences. It is like raising the kundalini without a guru watching over the person. This can result in madness and death.

If a sick Master attunes will the problem pass to the student?

If Reiki is truly used, there is no transfer in either direction.

If one has severe skin problem or any infectious diseases, is the healer prone to catch that disease?

Naturally, sanitation is practiced, as in all healing disciplines. Hands must be washed both before and after a session (even if there is no direct contact). Sheets and anything draped over the healee should also be washed. There are some excellent antibiotic creams available on the market. These can be carried by a healer at all times.

Is it not possible for wise men in Reiki to make efforts to get recognition as it is in case of Homeopathy or Ayurveda etc systems?

Many Reiki practitioners are already licensed in another healing discipline, or are pastors in a church (the spiritual route). There are many legal considerations, each country, state, and city being different. When you heal/teach for money, acquaint yourself with the legal requirements, if any.

Is Karuna Reiki more powerful than Reiki?

Karuna Reiki symbols, practiced worldwide as a blending of Hawaiian Kahuna practices, supposedly vibrate at higher frequencies.

An American woman, consistently visiting India to initiate Reiki, recently claimed that Usui was neither a Christian nor a dean of a school. Since he was drawn to healing, he studied Japanese and Chinese medicine and allopathy from missionary doctors. All the books on Reiki until now do not say so. Which is correct?

Reiki has no corner on the market for healing. Children are known to heal elderly people's aches by their heart's kindness. The charismatic Christian denominations make laying on of hands a part of every church service. The Kahunas of Hawaii, the medicine women of Native American Tribes do this also. The list is endless. The bottom line is: A) did it work? Moreover, B) did it last?
