Methodology

In addition to the literature review two types of data were collected: data from a self-completion questionnaire and a group follow up interviews with participants. This mixture of fixed and flexible design elements (Robson 2002) was adopted to enable both a broad overview of learning in social media spaces and to provide opportunity for deeper understanding of a smaller number of participants’ experiences. New questions and lines of enquiry were identified throughout the process, grounded in earlier responses and emerging themes.
