Ethical dimensions

Research and consent processes were designed to adhere to the appropriate School of Education Ethics Committee guidance and processes (University of Edinburgh Moray House School of Education Ethics Committee 2011). In recognition of the specific nature of internet-based research this work was also informed by the Association of Internet Researchers Ethics Guide (Ess and the AoIR ethics working group 2002), which, with their focus on cultural issues and the variable visibility of the researcher, are particularly appropriate for this type of research.
