From Greenville Co., SC probate court records
These are some of the papers surrounding William Cox 1's death in 1814. Some of the pages are unintelligible, and others are very difficult to decipher. Please take all of the text with a grain of salt. This is my transcription. I tried to find similar wording on clearer similar documents to help fill in the blanks.
From the papers that I can read, it seems that William Cox did not leave a will. SC probate law at the time said that if a man died intestate (without a will), the widow would get a third with the remainder divided among the children. That is what looks like happened on page 7 of the pdf.
From other sources, "Brazer/Brashear Family Saga" book, the authors said they'd seen a will dated Nov 17 1801 (File #2A299) with sons Abraham Cox and William Cox and two other people as witnesses. Although William Cox Jr. died in 1798??

** Note I have left off the money figures to the right as most are unintelligible. Also, please note, that I don't think William 1's son Abraham Cox is listed here. Is that because he is the administrator or that he already got anything he'd get before his father died? I don't know. The rest of the children are listed in what we *think* is birth order. We are 95% sure, for example that Rachel and Sithey are the oldest. Where Abraham fits in here we don't know.
