August Term 1888

James L. Cox one of the next of kin to Isaac Cox, shows that said deceased departed this life onthe 11th day of September 1888, and as petitioner believes, intestate, leaving an estate of theprobable value of eighteen hundred dollars, the personal property of the probable value of fivehundred dollars and the real consisting of a tract of land containing 425 acres of the probablevalue of $1250.00, and that it is necessary that a temporary administrator be appointed.

Ordered that J. L. Cox be appoint temporary administrator of the estate. Wherefore petitionerprays to be appointed the permanent administrator of the estate. September 18, 1888.

Ordered that Matthew R. Adams, A. R. Mosteller, S. J. Alberson, Wm. Hackett and HenryIngraham, be and they are hereby appointed appraisers of the estate of Isaac Cox.

Elizabeth Cox, widow of Isaac Cox, shows that under the law of Georgia, she the widow of saidIsaac Cox, is entitled before the payment of debts to twelve months support, which she herebyclaims.

..... The return of the commissioners have set aside a twelve months support for Elizabeth Cox,widow of Isaac Cox, and made the judgement of the Court.

Sept 2, 1889

Jas L. Cox shows Isaac Cox owned two tracts of land known as the home place containing onehundred and sixty acres, another tract containing one hundred acres lying on the old original Cobb & Cherokee lines before said County was laid off, and that it is necessary to sell the land,wherefore petitioner prays he be granted leave to sell land.

It is hereby ordered that leave be granted James L. Cox, administrator of said deceased to sell the lands. Sept 22, 1889

It is ordered that F. M. Bradford have leave to sell the personal property of James S. Bradford.

Mastin H. Adams, late of said County has departed this life testate, but the executor named in theWill of said testator refused to qualify, and no one applies for administration on his estate.

It is therefore ordered that H. I. Seale, Clerk of the Superior Court , be appointed temporaryadministrator of Mastin H. Adams.

Upon application for the appointment of appraisers to appraise the estate of said M. H. Adams, itis ordered that a warrant of appraisement issue to James L. Cox, Isaac Cox, John Evans, W. C.Chatham, and M. R. Adams, and that they be also required to set apart a twelve months supportfor the widow and minor children of said deceased.

Margaret V. Holbrook shows that Cicero Holbrook, late of said County, departed this life on the26th day of December 1882. That the said Cicero Holbrook, husband of your petitioner left alarge estate, consisting of a stock of dry good and groceries in the town of Roswell, in the Countyof Cobb. That she, the widow of Cicero Holbrook and her three minor children, to wit, Elizabeth,Ida and Cicero Rearl, are entitled to the twelve months allowance which she hereby claims forherself and them. She prays that proper persons may be appointed to set apart said twelvemonths allowance.

Broadwells, and running near Mrs. Chathams, Enoch Chamblers, & to intersect the Marietta Road a short distance from Thrashers shop. You, Isaac Cox, J. W. Broadwell, G. L. Brown & M. H. Adams hereby constituted reviewers to review and locate said route, if in your judgment said road will be of public utility sufficient to authorise opening said route, you will make a return of your proceedings in the premises, and if said road is of public utility, an order will issue in accordance with law, unless good & sufficient cause is shown to the contrary. 19th day of January 1870.

We the undersigned appointed by the Ordinary reviewers to review and lay out a road from near J. W. Broadwell to intersect the Marietta Road near Thrashers shop have reviewed the route and located the road as near the old road as possible to make a good road., it runs through Mary Stuart field & turns out a small portion of tenable land. We consider the above mentioned road of public utility to that portion of the County.

Tolled before me, by M. H. Adams, of the 892d District G. M. of said County, one estray mare, of the following description. Color, dark bay, with a small star in the face, both hind feet white, one scar on the top of the withers, the right hind leg swollen, and saddle marks on her back. Fifteen hands high, supposed to be 18 years old.

Appraised for W. C. Chatham and J. L. Cox to be worth Thirty five dollars, and who say that it is worth 40 cents per day to keep said mare.

M. H. Adams, having made affidavit that the marks and brands of said mare were correct, and had not been altered, to his knowledge, since he took her up, the mare was advertised according to law, and was claimed by Isiah Hubbard of Forsyth Co. who gave bond, paid all costs and expenses, and took possession of the mare.

Petition to discontinue old road known as the Chathem Road grant them a public road commencing west of the Mastin Adams old place and running east through the lands of H. L. Cox, Y. T. F. Jolley, and M. R. Adams and to intersect the public road running to Roswell at William Shamblee’s making a direct line from Trickem by way of Crabapple to Alpharetta, we further state there is a road being worked by the settlement where we want the road to run, that has been here forty years.
