Family Matters - 3. Ann Goninan
Ann Goninan was one of three surviving daughters of Edward Goninan and Margaret Rodda. She was born on the 17th Feb 1789 and baptised at Crowan Church on the 3rd May 1789. Her sisters were Margaret and Mary (see items 1 & 2)
This is a good example of how, on occasions, genealogical research can lead to a brick wall.
She married William Williams on the 13th Dec 1812. I have found the baptism of four children at Crowan:-
Ann baptised 4th Sept 1815 buried 11th Nov 1815
William baptised 23rd Aug 1816 buried 10th June 1817
Elizabeth baptised 6th Sept. 1818
Patience baptised 3rd Feb 1822
However I have not been able to find William or Ann or their surviving children on the 1841 census. With Williams being such a common name it is very difficult to pick up the trail, if indeed any of them were then alive. In Cornwall in 1841 there were 528 males with the name of William Williams of which 100 were in William’s likely age range. Similarly there were 84 with the name Ann Williams and of the right sort of age. There was the burial of one Ann Williams in Crowan in 1830 aged 41, this could have been our Ann. Reluctantly I have had to give up this line of research as a lost cause although if Elizabeth and Patience survived and married there could be descendents yet to be found.
