1.Children of Grace Goninan and William Henry Goninan
1.1 William Henry Goninan
William Henry was born in 1864 in Gwithian Parish.
He married Caroline Gribble at a Wesleyan Chapel in the Redruth District on the
18th Dec 1881. Caroline was 24, a spinster and her father (then deceased) was Matthew Gribble (who was a tin miner). William’s age is recorded as 20 but he was in fact 17.
William became a shift boss at Dolcoath mine and was killed by a fall of rock in the 375 fathom level on the 16th January 1908 when he was 43. At the inquest Capt William James for Dolcoath said that William 'was one of the best men they had - an extraordinary miner - who had worked at the mine for 25 years.' William was buried at Gwinear Church and his funeral was attended by many miners. Caroline died in 1922.

1.2 Catherine Jane Goninan
Catherine was born in 1866
Catherine married Thomas Joseph Bawden in 1888. He died in 1892 and Catherine married Thomas Paul Holland in 1894

1.3 Marah Hannah Williams Goninan
Marah Hannah was born on the 12th Jan 1868 in Connor Downs. Her names were actually registered as Mary Anna Williams Goninan
Marah married Richard Thomas Saunders at the United Methodist Free Church in Fore St., Redruth on the 4th Feb 1905. Richard was a gardener living in Penventon Terrace, Redruth and working at Parkhenver, the residence of a local business man. Marah was a cook at Parkhenver. They both signed the Register and the witnesses were Lizzie Edwards and Lizzie Goninan
Sometime after 1911 the family moved to Bexhill-on-Sea in Sussex
Marah died on the 17th April 1957 and is buried with Richard Thomas in Bexhill Cemetery.

1.4 Edward John Goninan
Edward was born on the 2nd Jan 1870 in Connor Downs. He died as a baby
1.5 Grace Emily Goninan
Grace Emily was born on the 24th April 1871 and was known affectionately as Gracemly.
Grace married Samuel Lugg on the 7th Nov 1896 at Gwithian Parish Church. Sam was 25 and a miner living in Connor Downs. His father was James Lugg. Both signed and the witnesses were Marah Hannah Goninan (her sister) and S.M.Eva.
Grace died on the 27th June 1957 at Stray Park Villas in Connor Downs. She is buried in the cemetery along the road between Connor Downs and Gwithian.

Grace was born in 1865 in Gwithian Parish. She married John Rule in 1899.

3 Children of William Goninan and Margaret Grenfell
3.1 Grace Goninan
Grace was born in 1873 in Cleater Moor, Cumberland. She married James Goodman on the 27th April 1893 in Ironwood, Upper Michigan. Grace married for a second time to Fred J Martin on the 10th April 1915 in Silver Bow, Montana. Grace may have died shortly after this because there is a Fred Martin on the 1920 census for Silver Bow of the right age and he is shown as widowed.

3.2 Elizabeth Ann (alias Laura) Goninan
Eliabeth Ann (alias Laura) was born in Cleater Moor in 1874. She married Charles James in August 1891 in the Ironwood in the Upper Michigan. She divorced Charles and married a second time to John Astley in Wallace, Shoshone County, Idaho on the 17th Aug 1903. At some point Elizabeth adopted the name Laura. In 1907 Elizabeth visited England with her mother and her son, Warren. They were due to travel back to British Columbia on the Lusitania from Liverpool on the 1st Dec 1907 but Margaret had died. Elizabeth (Laura) and her son Warren then travelled back in April of 1908. Elizabeth died in San Bernardino, California on the 17th Sept 1965.

1910 Living in Seattle with her husband John and three children – Charles (recorded as Arthur), Myrtle and Warren. John was born in England and was a machinist.
1920 Living in Seattle with Charles and Warren. Now widowed
1930 The voters lists show that Elizabeth was living in Los Angeles
3.3 Margaret Jane Goninan
Margaret Jane was born in Cleater Moor in 1876. She married George Albert Bridgeman on the 5th June 1894 in Ironwood in the Upper Michigan. George died in British Columbia in 1918. Margaret died in 1946 in Kimberley, British Columbia. The surname is sometimes spelt without the E.

Thomas Henry was born in Cleater Moor in 1878. He married Bertha Brough (not verified). Thomas died in California in 1945. At some point he adopted the spellings Thomas Hendry Goninion

There remains a query because Betty’s age is shown as 59 and given that Thomas’s son is only a few months old she cannot have been the mother. There are two step-children in the house so Betty had been married before. The California Birth Index shows the mother’s maiden name as Brough
3.5 Edward John Goninan
Edward was born in the Upper Michigan in 1880. He married Martha Anne Grosse on the 17th Feb 1906 in Butte, Montana. He worked in mines in Butte, Idaho and Rossland (Canada). He was a shift boss and head of a mine rescue team. He died in Feb 1933 in Butte.

Richard was born in the Upper Michigan in 1883. He died in Butte, Montana on the 25th April 1921. The William that died as a baby was possibly a twin of Richard’s

Minnie was born on the 17th May 1887 in Ironwood, Michigan. She married Ezra Campbell on the 26th November 1908 in Rossland, British Columbia Ezra was 27 and born in Newfoundland. Minnie died in british Columbia on the 27th October 1961

Ellis Island:-
Arrived in New York on the Oceanic on the 15th October 1913. She gave her contact as her aunt, Mrs R Rapson of 489 East Park Street, Butte. This was Annie Rapson. Her maiden name was Phillips. She married Richard Crewes, brother of Joseph, in Cornwall in 1885. Richard died in 1895 in Cornwall. Annie married Richard Rapson in Butte in 1900.
7.2 Catherine Frances (Kate) Crewes
Katie was born in 1879 and was baptised. along with her sister Grace, at Gwinear Parish Church on the 14th Sept. 1881. On the census her birth parish is given as Phillack.
Katie married Edward Thomas Curnow on the 30th July 1898 at Gwinear Parish Church.

7.3 Lena Grace Crewes
Lena was born in 1881 (registered as Grace) and was baptised (as Lena Grace) together with her sister, Katie, at Gwinear Parish Church on the 14th Sept 1881. On the 1891 census her birth Parish is shown as Gwithian.
Lena married William John Symons at Phillack Parish Church on the 3rd July 1909. William was a miner and aged 27. Lena’s sister, Annie Jane, was a witness

7.4 Ethel May Crewes
Ethel was born in 1883 and baptised at Gwinear Parish Church on the 18th Jan 1885 together with her brother Joseph. On the census her birth Parish is shown as Phillack in 1891 and Gwinear in 1901.
Ethel married Thomas Henry Jenkin (aged 25) at Phillack Parish Church on the 18th Dec 1909. Thomas was a farmer. Ethel’s father, Joseph, was a witness.

7.5 Joseph Henry Crewes
Joseph was born in 1884 and baptised at Gwinear Parish Church on the 18th Jan 1885 together with his sister, Ethel Mary. On the census, Joseph’s birth Parish is given as Gwinear. Married Elizabeth Kellow in Morenci, Graham County, Arizona on the
5th Nov 1910. Joseph had migrated in 1905 arriving in New York on the Oceanic on the 25th heading for Morenci. He gave his sister Kate as his contact in Morenci.

Sydney was born on the 18th June 1888 and baptised on the 24th October 1888 at Gwinear Parish Church. On the census his birth Parish is given as Gwinear.
He married Mildred Miners at Gwinear Church in 1914. Mildred was 19 and her father was Joseph Miners

Mildred together with Royce arrived in New York on the 9th Dec 1924 on board the Carmenia (so she must have returned home at some point). She was joining her husband in Sacremento

Ernest was born in 1894 and he was baptised at Gwinear Parish Church on the 14th March 1885. The census gives his birth Parish as Gwinear. Married Mary Ralph in Butte, Silver Bow, Montana on the 30th August 1923. Ernest died in Silver Bow on the 27th October 1963

11.2 John Hosking Cock
John was born in Gwithian Parish in 1889. He was a miner and, at one point, a pool hall owner. Like his brother, William Thomas, he adopted the spelling Cocks He married Theodocia Polkinghorne. John died on the 2nd March 1960 in Apache Junction, Arizona.

James was born the 6th Jan. 1903. He married Myrtle Johnson. He was a foreman at a potash works in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He died on the 5th August 1954 and is buried at the cemetery in Carlsbad.

11.7 Francis Lesley Harris
Francis (known as Frank) was born on the 3rd May 1908 in Herland, Gwinear. He married Winnie Gilbert on the 16th Jan 1932 in Penzance Register Office. He was a lorry driver at the time of his marriage and later worked for ICI in Hayle. Frank died on the 22nd July 1989
