The home side welcomed our new opponents Fonthill Park, on yet another bitterly cold Shutts Lane. Our ancient scorers were rugged up with so many coats and headgear, that they could easily have accompanied Scott to the Arctic. One of them was even heard to utter the immortal words, “I am just going outside and I may be gone for a sometime” and cricket is a sunshine game muttered for most of the day.
However, skipper got the call right again and elected to take to the field. Openers, Mikuriden and Prior rose to the challenge to face the opening pair of father and son Burton. The younger Matt, struck first with the scalp of the former. The stylish Rawlinson 42 joined battle with Prior and the pair added 58 until Prior fell to a good catch by newcomer Henderson from the spin of Newman. Rawlinson soon followed to a smart catch by Vaughan at the deep long off boundary, again from the bowling of Newman. Murray was next in and stroked his way to a fine 51. With the score board ticking over nicely the visitors posted a formidable 203-7 from their allotted 40 overs. Newman the pick of the bowlers with 2-26.

In reply, it was a case of knuckle down and try to get off to a decent start, and openers Shaw and Vaughan did just that with a priceless 74 on the board, before the skipper popped a catch to Street. Dave Shaw, showing more aggression than his want, went to his half century with no less than nine fours and a magnificent six. Further contributions, from the rest of the line-up, with no less than five of them into double figures. This left just one run required in the last over. Henderson was out with the first ball, in marched the young Max Bird to seal the victory to a splendid and exciting match with his scampered single. You can't ask for more can you......except for some sunshine!
