This week we shall begin our cruise through the years 1839-1852; the first land division from the newly (1821) created town of Collins to set off the town of Brant through the setting off of land which will become the town of North Collins.
Merchants & Professionals:
Physicians:
Please note: information during this time period is sketchy at best. Please click here to learn about early to mid 19th century emergency medicine.
Dr. McDaniels (No first name or dates given, no census record confirmation) he has been claimed as the first practicing physician in town although he remained only a short time.
Dr. Aurelius Harwood was the next practitioner. He has been verified to have resided in Collins in 1830.
Dr. Israel Congdon practiced in Collins until his death in 1846. He is mentioned in both the 1830 & 1840 census.
Dr. Alexander Bruce who is shown in both federal & state census records from 1840 - 1865 would practice here until his death.
Dr. William A Sibley, verified in town from 1850 through 1860 via census records is said to have practiced medicine here for many years.
Sibley was followed by Dr. Albert D. Robinson. (Verified via 1860 census).
Finally a Dr. Henry is listed; however, we have yet to locate a physician using census records.
Businesses:
Mills continued to be built within the town. C. B. Parkinson would build a mill about 1/2 mile east of Collins Center in 1840. In 1852, Jesse Frye would build a mill on Yaw Brook.
