SALISBURY CYCLE MAPS
Background:
The new online Salisbury cycling map below has been launched to show traffic-free and low-traffic routes. The map came about following the development and publication of the "mymaps" Oxford Cycle Map to illustrate safer-cycling routes to key places in the city, such as schools, colleges, shops as well as leisure and social facilities. These routes have been chosen by local cyclists to demonstrate traffic-free and low-traffic routes across the city that they frequently use.
Please send comments about the map to: cogsbike@gmail.com
Orange: Traffic-free cycle routes often shared with pedestrians.
Blue: Low traffic routes which may be busy at peak times and as such all cyclists should risk assess their own routes.
Red: Connecting footpaths where cycling is not permitted but you can walk your bike to reach the next cycling section
· Salisbury is a compact city and cyclists are able to travel from residential areas to the city in 10-15 minutes.
· The current Salisbury and Wilton map was last published in 2016 and is out of date.
· The new on line map is based on routes identified in the 2016 published map and uses online “Mymaps” to identify car-free and low-traffic routes for cycling in and around the city.
· The map takes a similar approach to that used for the Oxford Cycle Map to enable cyclists to navigate more safely round Salisbury and are based on the knowledge and experience of local cyclists.
· The “Mymaps” routes have been chosen as routes through and across the city and does not attempt to identify every route for cyclists.
· You will have you own favourite cycle routes so please get in touch to let us know how you are getting on with the online mapping. Particularly if you have spotted areas that need altering or where you have identified an improved route. This will enable the editors to update and/or change the routes where appropriate based on your suggestions and changes in the city.

The Salisbury OSM map details cycle routes, local bike shops and the location of cycle racks. As OSM uses algorithms it does not always highlight the most quietest route so please be aware when you are using this for mapping round the city.

The route has been designed to be cycled in an anti-clockwise direction and can be shortened by using our cross county routes along the Kennet and Avon Canal, through the Vale of Pewsey or down the Wylye Valley. The Wiltshire Cycleway also links to Sustrans National Routes and the South West Historical National Byway.
