Ok, I admit this is a little crazy, but I made a tape dispenser for a new roll of double-stick tape. I bought the tape to try as one option for holding down material to the CNC bed. The tape is 1" 3M 9579 temporary carpet tape, which comes on a 3" core. I haven't had a chance to use the tape yet, but it looks promising.
My goal was to make the tape easier to use, and protect it at least somewhat from sawdust since it would be kept near my CNC.
I designed it in Fusion 360, and cut it from hard maple and walnut using a 1/4" bit. I glued the layers together, and used an oscillating spindle sander to clean up the edges. The finish is my usual Watco Danish Oil (natural).
The inner hub for the tape roll (white part in above picture) was 3D printed on my Printrbot Simple Metal. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Note that I decided not to put a cutting blade in the dispenser since this tape doesn't seem to cut well with those type of blades. So, I simply will keep a small pair of scissors next to the dispenser.
