Please see the iReady results and relevant data for both 5th and 6th graders during these past two school years in a self-contained setting:
Reflection on Growth and Areas of Need during MOY Testing (2024-2025):
Math: This class showed more growth and strengths in ELA and less in math during the middle of the year testing.
Slight growth was noted in 7/10 (70%) of students of 1 grade level or within grade level.
No growth in 3/10 (30%) students.
Targeted Areas: Number and Operations, Algebra and Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, and Geometry.
Factors to consider:
● Weak foundational skills in basic operations and across most content such as fractions, inequalities, unit measurements, interpreting multiplication and division models etc. Reading levels were also low at the beginning of the year and are still developing so students require ongoing supports when reading and making sense of word problems. These areas were consistently targeted in class drills and additional homework assignments.
● Testing stamina at the beginning of the year was also low with some improvement noted during MOY diagnostics.
● Some students attempted to rush through exercises when dealing with some level of testing anxiety (diagnostics coincided with class testing).
● Lastly, some students refused to use scrap paper to incorporate strategies. Some realized their need to slow down and write out their work, only after seeing their scores.
Next Steps throughout the Year to close the Gap: All areas required more intensive review and practice: Number and Operations, Algebra and Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, and Geometry. The curriculum had to be supplemented consistently through drills that included PEMDAS practice, multiplication and division fluency fact checks and exercises that included decimals, in addition tol measurement and basic geometry reviews and lesson practice to allow students to revisit and apply concepts in word problems.

*Growth was noted in 10/10 (100%) of students of 3 grade level or less.. Only 1 student remained below one grade level.
Targeted Areas: Area formulas, Fractions (including areas) and Expressions
Factors to consider throughout the Year and Steps taken to Narrow the Gap:
● 6/7 (86%) remainedl below 2-3 grade levels.
Weak foundational skills in basic operations and across most content such as fractions, inequalities, unit measurements, interpreting multiplication and division models etc. Reading levels were also low at the beginning of the year and required ongoing supports when reading and making sense of word problems. These areas were consistently targeted in class drills and additional homework assignments as in the previous year.
● Testing stamina at the beginning of the year also remained low with some improvement noted during the MOY and EOY diagnostics.
● Some students attempted to rush through exercises but were more closely monitored throughout with scheduled breaks. Staff also provided encouragement throughout testing. More students were willing to use scrap paper to work out computations and apply models and strategies this year.
Areas in Need of Review and Next Steps: Number and Operations, Algebra and Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, and Geometry. The curriculum had to be supplemented with PEMDAS practice, and additional measurement lesson practice to allow students to revisit and apply various measurements in different contexts.
Notes from each year's data conferencing outlined instructional needs, methods to target areas of highest need and progress monitoring which tied into tracked IEP goals that sought to increase foundational fluency and improved word problem solving.
The small group class setting allowed for more questions from students to address misconceptions and apply corrections with working anchor charts. The small group setting also allowed more frequent 1:1 conferencing with students and more support from both teaching and paraprofessional staff.
