Sun

The Sun contains more than 99.8% of the total mass of the Solar System. It takes about 8 minutes (8 light minutes) for the photons of light from the sun to reach Earth. It looks to be about the size of the moon in the sky and it's hard to believe that this star is so big. But, actually in comparison to other stars in space such as VY Canis Majoris, the largest known star, our sun is tiny. To give you an idea of the difference in size it would take 1.2Ă—1016 (that's 12,000,000,000,000,000) Earths to fill the volume of VY Canis Majoris versus 1 million Earths that fit into our Sun.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is larger than the Sun, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness. Totality occurs in a narrow path across the surface of the Earth, while a partial solar eclipse will be visible over a region thousands of kilometers wide. You feel a small temperature drop when the sun is blocked out for a few minutes.

Venus is "transiting" or moving across our Sun in this NASA video which has compressed hours of transit time to minutes. Venus is about the same size as Earth.
