Four weeks of cycling on Kyushu, including nine days on the Goto Islands. Total distance was 1600km. We flew into Osaka and travelled by Sunflower ferry to Shibushi, southern Kyushu. We returned to Osaka by Sunflower ferry from Beppu, northern Kyushu. We departed Japan via Tokyo.
The Cycle Route
FILLING IN THE GAPS. On this Kysuhu bike trip, we rode the full beautiful South Miyazaki coast, selected an adventurous route from Aya into the central mountains, rode through the central mountains, descended on a wonderful route to the west coast of Kysuhu. The Goto islands offered unmatched charm and riding. We managed our way through Golden Week and really enjoyed the roads and towns of less visited Bungo, east of Mt Aso.
THE WEATHER. April 12-May 11, 2025. Temperatures were comfortable for riding. We experienced morning low's of about 12-15C and the high's ranged from 17C-23, with most days reaching just 20C or 21C. We were fortunate that in April, the rain mostly fell at night, with just one rainy day. Towards the middle of May, we encountered a couple of damp days. We carried rinko bags (required for train travel) but didn't use them.
