The CHS Concert Choir is a mixed ensemble, consisting of approximately twenty singers ranging from freshmen to juniors. This group offers a foundational choral experience which provides members with the opportunity to participate in performances, gain musical knowledge and skills in sight-reading, and learn about various styles and historical periods through the study of a variety of repertoire. Members of this ensemble perform annually at the Fall Choral Concert, Holiday Concert, Spring Choral Concert, and Spring Revue.
Bel Canto is an intermediate all-female choral ensemble, consisting of approximately thirty singers. This group offers a choral experience which provides members with the opportunity to participate in performances, gain musical knowledge and skills in sight-reading, and learn about various styles and historical periods through the study of a variety of repertoire. Members of this ensemble perform annually at the Fall Choral Concert, Holiday Concert, ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest, ISSMA Organizational Contest and Spring Revue.
Camerata is an advanced mixed choral ensemble, consisting of approximately twelve to twenty singers. In addition to preparing music for performances, members of this ensemble focus upon learning the elements of music and developing advanced skills in music literacy. Members of this ensemble perform annually at the Fall Choral Concert, Holiday Concert, ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest, ISSMA Jazz Contest, ISSMA Organizational Contest and Spring Revue.
In existence for forty years, Chesterton High School’s all-treble choral group is known as the Drifters. Functioning as both a concert choir and show choir, each year the Drifters performs at the Fall Choral Concert, Fall Show Choir Performance, CHS Madrigal Dinner, Spring Choral Concert, Spring Revue, and several show choir competitions during the winter months. The group has gained a reputation as a top competitor at show choir events, earning numerous grand championships and caption awards throughout the Midwest.
The Sandpipers is the most select choral ensemble at Chesterton High School, and has been in existence for fifty years. This highly select ensemble is comprised of forty-three members who perform a wide variety of repertoire as both a concert choir and show choir. The group performs on the Fall and Spring Choral Concerts and Spring Revue, entertains over a thousand guests at the annual CHS Madrigal Dinner, and participates in several show choir competitions and the ISSMA Organizational Festival each year.
The Sandpipers has competed successfully as a show choir for thirty-three years, and during this time has developed a reputation for innovative, creative, and engaging performances. The group has toured extensively throughout the U.S., earning grand champion honors at show choir competitions in seven states. In addition, the group is noted for strong performances of traditional choral repertoire, earning unanimous gold ratings in both music and sight-reading at the ISSMA Organizational Festival during each of the past four years. Members of the Chesterton High School Sandpipers pride themselves on precision and a commitment to excellence.
The CHS Show Choir Band is an extracurricular ensemble which provides live instrumental accompaniment for the CHS show choirs at our performances at competitions. The group consists of approximately sixteen to twenty members who are interested in a fast-paced, high-level commercial music experience. The CHS Show Choir Band has gained a reputation as a dynamic and impactful show band, and has earned numerous awards for best instrumentals at show choir competitions over the past several years.
