Audition FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Auditions:

What do I need to do before my audition(s)?

What should I wear to the Voice Placement Audition?

Most people dress up for their vocal audition. They will wear dresses, slacks and button downs, etc. Help show the judges you care about this by dressing well.

If the judges ask me to sing some more, does that mean I was bad?

Absolutely not! If the judges ask you to sing again, it is because they simply want to hear more of what you can do. Do not think it is a reflection of whether you did well or not in the first part of the audition.

What should I wear to the Movement/Dance Audition?

Please wear shoes with flexible soles and comfortable clothing which allows you to move freely.

If I mess up in the Movement/Dance Audition, does that mean I automatically won't make the group?

Of course not! Messing up in the dance audition is expected. We are looking to see how well you move, if you can make adjustments, and how engaged you are facially in the performance. The judges know that the material is different from most people's experiences, and they take that into consideration when watching the dance portion of the auditions.

Where do the auditions take place?

Auditions will take place at Chesterton High School in the Auditorium. Parents may drop students off at Entrance 31, which is located on the North side across from the Baseball and Softball fields.  All auditionees are expected to remain for the duration of the audition.

What do I do if I cannot make the audition date?

If you are unable to attend the day of auditions, please email Ms. Morris (kristin.morris@chestertonchoirs.org) to set up an alternative time to audition. She will work with you and your schedule to figure out a time that works for you to come sing and dance for her.

When will  I know if I made the group?

It typically takes a couple of days for the directors to sort through all of the auditions and come to a final decision. Expect that it will take a full week before results are sent out.

Where will the results of the auditions be posted?

Audition results will be sent to the email you provided.

What if I make a group I didn't sign up for on my course selection sheet?

If you make a group that was not the chosen group on your course selection sheet, there is no need to worry!  Ms. Morris will communicate with the guidance office to make the appropriate changes to your schedule.

I'm from a school outside of CHS, but am going to CHS next year, can I still audition?

Yes! We encourage any student who will be attending CHS next year to audition!  Simply email Ms. Morris (kristin.morris@chestertonchoirs.org) to set up a time to come in and perform the vocal and dance audition.
