As an TAMU engineering student, your ChemE-folio may be used to validate ABET criteria beyond the general TAMU competencies required of all TAMU graduates. What are ABET criteria?
ABET stands for Accreditation Board for Education and Technology. ABET regularly conducts a specialized review of programs, for example, the engineering program in the TAMU Department of Chemical Engineering, to insure that certain criteria are met. Go to ABET Basics to learn more about how accreditation works. Below are the summaries of each criterion. See a full description at ABET Engineering Criteria Program Educational Outcomes.
External review through accreditation helps individuals in a decision-making role know if specific professional standards are being met by the organization or institution in question. As a soon-to-be professional chemical engineer your work will continually be scrutinized to determine if it meets specific professional engineering standards. Likewise, having your ChemE-folio evaluated by an external reviewer for specific ABET criteria will strengthen the value of the work you are presenting to recruiters and other decision makers.
