Tip: If you simply joined an organization but never participated, don't list; refrain from "padding" your portfolio or your resume.
However, if you contributed to an organization's service mission, even briefly, describe what you did in detail. For example, if you spent a Saturday completing home repairs with a group for the Big Event, include this activity. Show the value of your contributions to the group through the details in your explanations.
When listing each activity of service, include the following:
Name of organization or group
Purpose of organization
Dates when you volunteered
Your position or role
List or description of responsibilities
Name and title of supervisor, including contact information
Tip:
Use consistent formatting for all of the list information.
Use the Guiding Questions listed in the Experiences and Skills overview and in Memberships/Activities for additional prompts to help you describe any service activities.
