On the 1 October 2013, the law regulating scrap metal collecting changed.
From that date anybody collecting scrap metal or salvaging motor parts in the borough of Cheltenham must have a licence issued by Cheltenham Borough Council.
The new rules also introduce new record keeping requirements for receiving scrap metal. From October scrap metal dealers are required in law to record and verify the names and addresses of persons who supply scrap metal to them. There is an additional requirement for them to keep (for 3 years) copies of the documents used to verify the supplier’s identity.
