Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators Event for 2021
Following the successful and popular Coordinators event held at Police Headquarters last February, it was agreed that it should become an annual fixture in the calendar.
Unlike the last event, where 100 Coordinators were able to gather together to hear the presentations and network with colleagues from across Gloucestershire, this year, for obvious reasons, it will be held using the internet and the Microsoft Teams business meeting platform.
The event will start at 10am with a registration period; the welcome, introductions and presentations will start at 10.30. The full agenda is shown below.

Frauds and Scams to be Aware Of
As we have been in lockdown since Christmas it appears that the thieves have been staying at home more and turning their attention to telephone and internet scams and frauds.
There have been a number of calls reported to be from HMIC (Income Tax) claiming that back tax is owed and if not paid a warrant will be put out for your arrest. Calls claiming to be from Amazon have also been popular claiming that money has been taken from your Amazon account and requesting bank details so this can be checked or money returned.
TV Licensing and Water/Electricity companies have also appeared claiming that stand orders have not gone through and to pay again using bank details that are given.
These are all scams attempting to get either money or your bank details so that even more money can be taken. Do Not get taken in – if there is a problem contact the company and check, Do Not just hand over cash or your bank details.
Courier Fraud has also been on the increase since Christmas

National NHW Week Zoom Presentations
National NHW Week takes place from 5th -11th June.
This year, due to the current restrictions, we have arranged for three presentations on Fraud, Road Safety and CrimeStoppers to be made available via Zoom at various times and days throughout the week.
The presentations will be available during the morning, afternoon and evenings in an effort to encourage as many attendees as possible. Each session will be approximately 30-40 minutes long and followed by a question and answer session.
The times and dates of the presentations are as follows:-
We're reminding the public to please be vigilant following a number of catalytic converter thefts in the county.
In recent weeks there has been a number of reports of catalytic converter thefts taking place with a majority of these being in Cheltenham and Gloucester.
Reported incidents have included catalytic converters being stolen from vehicles parked in public car parks and it is believed that offenders will pull up alongside a vehicle before cutting off the catalytic converter with a saw or angle grinder.
There are a number of signs that you can look out for such as your vehicle making a loud rumbling sound as soon as the engine is turned on and this will normally get louder as you put your foot on the accelerator.
Residents are asked to report any catalytic converter thefts or suspicious activity around vehicles by calling 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
Information can also be submitted via our online form: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/soh/something-youve-seen-or-heard/
A number of crime prevention methods can be found below:
· Keeping your vehicle in a garage when possible
· Parking in such a way as to make access to the underside of your vehicle difficult
· Parking in busy or well-lit areas
· Using a Park Mark safer parking approved car park. You can find one near you by visiting: www.parkmark.co.uk/car-park-finder
· Looking out for people working under cars in unusual locations such as car parks or individuals who are acting suspiciously
· Fitting a Thatcham approved alarm system- the type that activates when the vehicle is lifted or tilted
· Using a catalytic converter protection device or marking system
Join us and build a better community.
If someone is asking you to pay a bill with Google vouchers or Amazon cards you can be sure that this is a scam call, put the phone down, wait for 5 mins and call the Police and/or Action Fraud.
