Raptor Assembly for Families at Schlitz Audubon

Schlitz Audubon Nature Center
Families learned how humans and raptors have co-existed for thousands of years! This event was geared toward 1st - 8th graders and their families. The families meet four raptors, including a bald eagle, an owl, a falcon and a hawk and experienced a show-and-tell of a variety of artifacts.
Entrance to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center was included in this free event sponsored by PAGE. Families were able to hike and explore the grounds before and/or after the assembly.
Families registered in advance and registration was limited to families of children in a gifted and/or talented program at a PAGE member school district.
Fractal Foundation Workshops

Kettle Moraine High School
Fractals, the intersection of science, math and art, are never ending patterns that repeat themselves at different scales.
Students participated in workshops specifically designed by grade level to explore fractals. Each workshop included a presentation with an introduction to fractals and the different types of fractal patterns. Students then learned how they can have fun with fractals with some hands-on activities, including working with a Sierpinski triangle, Fibonacci sequence, tetrahedron, cutout cards and XaoS (fractal software). Older students learned about application of fractals in various careers and had more in depth time with XaoS.

Parents of children with gifts and talents received support and guidance through discussion and interaction with each other and facilitators. Parents shared concerns, ideas and strategies for nurturing the self-concept and emotional development of their children and families.

The PAGE 14th Annual Cool Stuff of Kids Opportunity Fair was held at Grafton High School on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018.
This FREE event connected parents, kids and teens throughout Southeastern Wisconsin with organizations that offer enrichment classes, programs, camps and activities during the summer months and throughout the school year! This event was open to families with students of all ages, preschool to high school. Many vendors were present to share information about their organization, as well as the experiences and opportunities that they can provide. ANY AND ALL FAMILIES WERE WELCOME TO ATTEND!

Navigating the High C's of Giftedness:
Cognition, Creativity, Curiosity, Compassion and Confidence
Parenting and educating gifted children can sometimes be a difficult "sea" to navigate. During calm and sunny times - and turbulent, stormy times - many navigational tools are needed. These tools help us pay attention to all aspects of the developing child - cognition, creativity, curiosity, compassion and confidence. Jackie Drummer helped parents learn how to help children successfully nagivate these "High C's of Giftedness" with patience and skill.
Guest Speaker: Jacquelyn (Jackie) Drummer, served as the Gifted and Talented Coordinator and Differentiation Specialist for the School District of South Milwaukee from 1988-2015. She is the past President of the WI Association for Talented and Gifted. Jackie is a SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of Gifted) National Trainer of facilitators, and a certified literacy, team, organizational systems and transformational coach.

Wauwatosa West High School
This engineering event with Dr. STEM was designed for students in kindergarten-6th grade and their parents to explore different hands-on engineering activities. Students and their parents rotated through different stations, such as catapults, balloon cars, mini-rockets, maxi-rockets and UV color changing bracelets to discover engineering principles and real-life applications.
Jack Samuelson, aka "Dr. STEM," is a STEM education consultant with over 40 years experience in grades 7-12 science and engineering classroom instruction, K-12 teacher professional development, and K-12 engineering outreach. He was co-creator of the Engineering Outreach Program at Marquette University and served as the program's first coordinator.

First Stage Workshop

Menomonee Falls High School
Three grade-level First Stage workshops were offered to 3rd-8th grade gifted students in PAGE's member districts. Each session focused on advancing skills in critical thinking, problem solving, leadership and collaboration through arts-integrated activities.
About First Stage: Since 1992, the First Stage Academy has fostered a positive atmosphere, building community not competition, where young people can trust themselves and others, see that it is OK to be themselves, and learn to overcome the fear of failure by taking positive risks in a completely supportive environment.
