What Does That Stand For?
A Guide to Acronyms, Organizations & Websites
Created by the legislature, CESAs partner with school districts, schools, and educators to provide services that benefit students. CESA #1, located in southeast Wisconsin, is comprised of 45 school districts in 6 counties.
CESA #1 PAGE is an active committee of parent volunteers and educators of gifted students in Southeast Wisconsin, comprised of educator and parent representatives from member school districts. By combining resources from our individual school districts, we collaborate to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for gifted students and their families in the greater Milwaukee area.
SENG focuses on the unique social and emotional needs of gifted individuals, which are often misunderstood or ignored. By underwriting and providing education, research, theory building, and staff development, SENG promotes environments where gifted individuals can develop self-esteem, thrive, and utilize their talents.
WATG exists primarily for the purpose of raising public awareness about the unique needs of gifted individuals. The website serves to educate parents and teachers about upcoming events, topics related to GT and links for additional resources. A statewide conference for educators and parents is held every fall.
The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) is an organization of parents, teachers, educators, other professionals, and community leaders who unite to address the unique needs of children and youth with demonstrated gifts and talents as well as those children who may be able to develop their talent potential with appropriate educational experiences.
Northwestern University’s Midwest Academic Talent Search (NUMATS) is a way to identify kids who need more. Not only does NUMATS provide access to above-grade-level testing, but it also gives parents a roadmap of which classes, extracurricular activities and enrichment programs will benefit their gifted child the most. The mission of NUMATS is to help these bright kids develop the self-confidence, exposure and skills they need to have a positive academic experience.
Rigorous implementation of RTI includes a combination of high quality, culturally and linguistically responsive instruction; assessment; and evidence-based intervention. Comprehensive RTI implementation will contribute to more meaningful identification of learning and behavioral needs, improve instructional quality, provide all students with the best opportunities to succeed in school, and assist with the identification of specific learning needs.
