Council for the Conservation of Migratory Birds News

Newsletter Background

The Council for the Conservation of Migratory Birds (Council) was established in 2009 by the Secretary of the Interior to oversee the implementation of the Executive Order 13186, Responsibilities of Federal Agencies to Protect Migratory Birds. The Executive Order was a crucial first step in creating a more comprehensive strategy for the conservation of migratory birds by the Federal government, thereby fulfilling the government’s duty to lead in the protection of this international resource. Participation in the Council is open to all Federal agencies whose activities may directly or indirectly affect migratory bird populations.

This Newsletter is designed to share and highlight the great things the Council staff and their agencies are working on for migratory birds, both directly through the Council and within their own agencies in coordination with others. It is intended to help keep Council agencies informed of what their agencies and other federal agencies are doing to help protect migratory birds, and be a mechanism to easily share this information with others who might be interested in learning about or contributing to Council or agency efforts.
