SHARED ANNOUNCEMENTS:
American Classical League's Charles Humphreys Award for Innovative Pedagogy
Usual deadline : February 1 . Contact: atlargebog@aclclassics.org.
Charles Humphreys dedicated his long career to teaching Classics and supporting the teaching of Latin and Greek throughout our state of California and across the nation. He was very active in our CCA South organization, holding various Board positions and attending all the meetings, no matter how many hours he had to drive. He also served the American Classical League faithfully throughout his professional career in many capacities, among them serving as our California Representative to the Council. For these reasons and more, ACL has set up an award to honor those extraordinary teachers who go the extra mile.
For more information about nominating someone for this award and for information about the several monetary scholarships and grants available through ACL , please contact the ACL or visit their site aclclassics.org and click the Awards and Scholarships tab.
Coffin Fellowship from Society for Classical Studies
The usual deadline for this Coffin Fellowship is February 27.
SCS asks us to share the details on our websites or social media in order to reach a good applicant pool of teachers. A brief summary is below with a link to the full materials online:
The Fellowship is intended to recognize secondary-school teachers of Greek or Latin who are as dedicated to their students as the Coffins themselves by giving them the opportunity to enrich their teaching and their lives through direct acquaintance with the classical world. It will support study in classical lands (not limited to Greece and Italy); the recipient may use it to attend an educational program in (e.g. American Academy, American School) or to undertake an individual plan of study or research. It may be used either for summer study or during a sabbatical leave, and it may be used to supplement other awards or prizes.
Candidates for the Fellowship must have been teaching Latin or Ancient Greek at the secondary level (grades 9-12) in North America as a significant part of their academic responsibilities for three years out of the five prior to the award. Membership in the SCS is not a requirement for application, although it is expected that applicants will have demonstrated an active interest in the profession and in their own professional development. Selection will be made on the basis of written applications by the Coffin Fellowship Committee. The amount of the award for 2020 will be $3,100. Recipients of the award will be expected to file a written report on their use of the Fellowship, which the Society may include in one of its publications.

STUDY IN GREECE 2021-2022
ASCSA PROGRAMS AND FELLOWSHIPS
The American School of Classical Studies at Athens was founded in 1881 to provide American graduate students and scholars a base for their studies in the history and civilization of the Greek world. Today it is still a teaching institution, providing graduate students a unique opportunity to study firsthand the sites and monuments of Greece. The School is also a superb resource for students and senior scholars pursuing research in many fields ranging from prehistoric to modern Greece, thanks to its internationally renowned libraries, the Blegen, focusing on all aspects of Greece from its earliest prehistory to late antiquity, and the Gennadius, which concentrates on the medieval to modern Greek world, as well as the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Sciences.
A long list of excellent opportunities are listed on these pages. Many have stipends and full scholarships to applicants. They are always eager to have applicants!
