Pestera Valea Cetatii
Pestera Valea Cetatii (Postavaru Mountains, Southern Carpathians) is a relatively small cave (~800 m) discovered in the ‘950s when the hydraulic pressure accumulated in a subterranean reservoir blasted away a ~20 meters-thick debris infilling and caused a massive flood at surface. In 2010 the cave was developed for tourism by enlargement of the access passage, fitting metallic stairways and bridges and an LED-based lighting system. The tour totals ~300 m of trails. Despite the short underground trip and limited attractions this cave had a number of 140,000 visitors in 2012 mainly due to its position in a highly visited area.
