Solo and Ensemble

You may prepare a solo or an ensemble for fun, or you may take it to the Solo and Ensemble Festival.  This festival is held on:

DATE:  Saturday, March 31, 2012        at      ST. CROIX CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL

Solos and Ensembles, besides demonstrating character, talent, and discipline and providing a neat challenge, also help prepare you for college auditions.  If you are thinking about singing in a college choir someday, you should definitely work on a solo - EVEN IF YOU DO NOT CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FESTIVAL.

It is necessary for us to charge a fee for Festival Participation.  (Fortunately, for the vast majority of people, the fee is much less than if you had to pay an activity fee.)  Fees pay for judges, accompanists if desired, and WSMA costs.  If you decide to participate in the festival, the following fees apply:

FEES:

SOLOS:  (Add accompaniment fee if necessary)

Class A Solo:          $9.00 per solo,

Class B/C Solo:      $7.50 per solo,

ENSEMBLES:  (Remember to add accompaniment fee if necessary)

Fees for individuals have been rounded to the nearest quarter for ease of bookkeeping.

ALL Duets:        $13.00/Duet  ($6.50/ea if single duet;  $3.25/ea if a double duet)

ALL Trios:          $13.00/Trio  ($4.50/ea if single trio; $2.25/ea if double trio)

ALL Quartets:     $13.00/Quartet ($3.25 if single quartet; $1.75 if double quartet)

ACCOMPANIMENT FEE:

There are three alternatives for accompaniments:

1) perform with CD accompaniment (no charge - you bring a self-owned, battery powered CD player to festival)

2) you can find your own accompanist and make private arrangements, or

3) a professional accompanist will be provided by the school.  There is a cost of $10 PER ENTRY for this service.   Divide the $10 among your group.

Please see the WSMA website for the complete set of rules and the list of solos/ensembles.
