Teaching Adult Learners

Teaching Adult Learners

Carol Wickham-Revier, 2014 Colorado State Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year, has successfully taught adult piano students for more than 30 years. Her passion and skill for teaching meets the needs of experienced pianists and also supports the dreams of music lovers who have never played an instrument and want to begin.

Renowned for her rare combination of enthusiasm and teaching gifts, Carol considers herself, first and foremost, to be a consultant who listens deeply to what her students want. She supports students on their individual musical paths, more like an ally or champion rather than an authoritarian.

In addition to training in both piano performance and piano pedagogy, Carol is a lifelong student of the learning process. She is fascinated by the ways learning styles and needs change at different stages of life, including the challenges of students over age 50.

Carol’s teaching is also informed by her personal exploration of body-centered systems including the Taubman Approach, the Feldenkrais Method,  and the Alexander Technique, all highly respected processes geared toward helping people achieve greater functioning, more ease and less effort. Carol teaches students of all ages to play without pain or constriction of the musculo-skeletal system. The old fashioned image of a pianist hunched over the keyboard is history.
