I don't diet if I want to lose weight. I exercise more. Two considerations when I eat (1) getting enough calories to maintain my body weight, strength and energy (2) eating the right foods that provide the best nutrition for my body for better health.
Getting to know your body is key. Finding the right range of calories is not hard. It does require close attention to the number of calories you take in versus calories burned. Learning the essential nutrients, how much fat, carbs and protein is also important. I don't weigh myself, I look in the mirror. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. When people tell me they lost 5 pounds in a week, you do the math. How much weight was water loss? Activity burns calories, muscle burns calories, so exercise is key to losing weight. A body with more muscle can burn more fat. The USDA is a good place to start if you want to learn about the foods you eat and how to eat healthier. Learn what is realistic weight loss and how many calories you can burn doing different exercises.
